first ice setup
managed to get my hands on cheap little setup but id like to add a little to it just make make it that bit better.
ive fitted plenty of amps/subs for mates but never really looked into the whole rms/peak power and everything else thats involved in making them work. heres a quick list of what i got so far and the specs from a quick google search:
Sony Xplod XS-L121P5 Car Subwoofer (in enclosed box)
Key Features
Element 1-Way
Nominal Power Handling 350 Watt RMS
Technical Features
Peak Power Handling 1200 Watt
Frequency Response 18 Hz - 2 kHz

Impedance 4 ohm (Dual Coil)
Sony Xplod 2-Channel 250 Watt Amplifier, XM-502Z
MOSFET Power Supply
50W x 2 continuous power
80Hz low-pass filter
100 Watts RMS @ 4 Ohms
Kenwood KFC-6979ie
Car Speaker Type Coaxial
Elements 3-Way
Car Speaker Function Mid-Range Speaker, Subwoofer, Tweeter
Size 6" x 9"
Nominal Power Handling 60 Watt RMS
Technical Features
Peak Power Handling 240 Watt
Frequency Response 28 Hz - 28 kHz
Sensitivity 93 dB
Impedance 4 ohm (Dual Coil)
from what ive read so far on various googling when mathcing an amp up to speakers/subs the rms of both should basically match?? is that all i need to look out for or are there other variables?
i intend on using the amp i have to run the 6x9's but the rms of the amp is 40w higher than the speakers. i doubt the volume will often be cranked to 11 so will this cause a problem?
as for the sub i intend on buying a new/used amp for the job. are there specific makes that do a good job for mucho less money than some of the stuff ive been looking at? bear in mind im not looking for the ultimate system but id like something that can do the buisness.
lastly speakers up front. should i upgrade the standard door speakers or make some mounts and put something else there (6x9's for example??), knocking up mounts would be no hassle really but would i gain anything over some quality door speakers??
cheers

overdrive speakers where possible its distortion that kills speakers!! lose the 6x9's amp some front speakers and buy a cheapo monoblock amp to drive the sub, i bought a fusion one for less than 80 quid new!! get some 13cm front speakers in the doors no probs, or make up some pods for something bigger

cheers. just looking at a sony amp, this 1 - http://www.radiomancaraudio.com/detail. ... ID=SY5150G. it says 200 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms 400 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms.
what effect will running it at 400w rms at 2 ohms be compared to 200w at 4 ohms?? surely it wont hav any effect on overall quality of sound but increase the workload on the amp due to less resistance??

to run it at a 2ohm load you will need a 2 ohm sub or a sub with dual 4 ohm voice coils. i don't trust sony stuff [ERRR] i seen it go funlumps up on loads of mates and not deliver what it says on the box or last very long! but 200watts rms thru a sub @ 4 ohms will make a noticeable difference to sound reproduction in your vehicle and add some muchly needed bass
