Postby Sports Injection 16v on Sun Nov 09, 2003 6:11 pm

i was thinkin of getting a 1.8 zetec rather than the 2 litre due to me being young and all. would i have to do the same modifications to the 1800 as to the 2.0?

2.0 will only move you up 1 insurance group wont it?

which 1.8 engine anyway, mondeo? i imagine the rs1800 engine would be more expensive because its like, group 14 insurance

Yes this is true. If you get an RS1800 engine your insurance will go up to group 14 since thats the group of the donar car

But if you get a 2.0L mondeo which is even better than the RS1800 with more torque... it only rises to group 9 insurance which is that of the mondeo 2.0L

Which is a good thing I reckon

suppose it depend also if ur doin it ursen

if ur a competent mechanic the 2l will be worth the effort, but if ur not the 1.8l will slot straight in with only a couple of changes to other parts, whereas the mondy will need the sump changing, new efi unit etc

2.0 engine will go in as easy as a 1.8 won't it? according to that guide it's dead easy and i dont see how an engine can be much more similar to the original :-?

or were you thinking of a different 2.0 engine?

My 1.6s is group 9, does that mean the insurance will stay the same with a 2.0l?

I think if you get a 1.8 from a mondeo it will still need some of the bits from the fiesta. Its a mondeo lump so it will have the mondeo sump etc which won't fit.

Go for the 2.0 mate, theres only a few parts that you need to swap. ;)
