Fitting GRS Intercooler

Postby JohnnyT2 on Fri Feb 21, 2003 8:19 pm

Planning on buying a GRS intercooler within the next couple of weeks. Has anyone encountered any problems when fitting it? i read somewhere that because of its size it blocks the air to the radiator and overheating occurs. will the original turbo to intercooler and intercooler to crossover pipe hoses still fit or will longer hoses have to be fitted? do people fit the intercooler to the front panel or the bumper?

Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

I dont think kenlowes are best, the FRST original Fan is the BEST item to use

True in away that kenlowes arent always best as the original ford fans are more powerfull.
But after speaking to lots of GRS owners they have said the only way of keeping temps stable is by fitting twin fans (kenlowes being thinner).

Yeah, the only reason people fit kenlowes is because they are thinner

I would much prefer to modify the setup to utilise the FRST Fan!!

GRS i/c items are obviously larger in size than the std i/c as owners wish to keep their ACT's down however the downside to this is that larger i/c's take up more engine bay room, hence the need for thinner fans.

So i'm best off keeping the original FRST fan then.

Will the original FRST rad be adequate or does that need uprating?

Will i need different hoses to fit the Grs i/c?

Cheers

you'll get away with a standard ERST bottom hose (I assume you're going T3) but the top is a funny one...I'm using a ERST top hose and it just about fits, Paul R has modifed a FRST one to fit...best work it out once it's fitted.
Speak to Graham about the Rad options - he does a lovely new big core one that fits great with the intercooler.

BTW - I have just 1 x 10" kenlowe between the rad and intercooler

Cheers for the info. I've already got a t3. Does the radiator need uprating? Funds are a bit tight as the turbo needs replacing.

just make sure tha rad is on perfect working order - rinse it out well, then rinse it out again just to make sure.
when funds allow, go for a GRS larger rad as well to keep engine temps cool as possible.
