Fitting T-control/L-control to a non ABS fezza, low cost!!!!

Postby siace on Fri Jan 27, 2006 11:22 pm

just found out how i can fit launch control and very basic traction control to a fezza si without abs.

Launch control and traction control work in a similar way, they both detect wheel slip and make changes to things to compensate.

if a car has abs then it is very easy to fit both and run it off a megasquirt kit which can run this internaly via an add on daughter board.

but the abs on mk3 fezzas is gay as you know, and most have been removed or disconected, so assuming you dont have it.

but iv been thinking............. (pressuming fwd)

fit a wheel speed sensor (£19 each cheapest iv found) to each of the four wheels. link the 2 front wheel sensors 2gether with a small resistor so they both send one averaged signal down a single signal wire, and do the same for the rear. link these 2 front and rear signal wires to the add on board in the ms ecu to interprept the driven and non driven wheels signal.

the ecu detects the rear and front wheel speed difference, front wheels spining at 30mph, rear ones virtualy staionary and the ecu know theres wheel spin occouring, the add on ecu controler then tells the ecu to bring in a second rev limiter which slowly reduces engine power until the driven wheels and rear wheels start to evan out speed (gaining grip), limiter rises until it disapears.

hey presto, launch control, and it happens over several seconds so the small loss of power is undetectable, and all this happens while your boot is planted to the floor so instant boost/ power is resumed as quickly as possible.

this system is also very useful when it icey and your trying to clime a hill, or trying to get out of a dangerous junction as fast as possible.

also can help when cornering as a basic form of traction control, but i mean very basic. may not evan work that well, the traction control part is a thoery, the launch control iv tried myself and it works.!!!

I'm not entirely sure where the resistor comes into this to be honest. ABS sensors are proximity transistors basically. So a resistor will jus hinder it's signal.

May I suggest lifting your right foot slightly?

the system works fine, its running on my old escort perfectly, the resistor is needed to only allow through an average of the two signals, it makes no sens to just have one back and one front wheel with a sensor.

and as for throttle control, iv been doing off road landrover racing since i was 7, and believe me, it takes years of practice to be *human traction control*.

the system works perfectly

Not being funny mate but with 120bhp it really is a complete waste of your cash. Learn how to use the throttle, it's not an on/off switch

:P im fully aware of that, it was merely a test to see if it works or not, the escort is a 1.4 cvh, im not that daft lol.

the fact is, it works, and works very well, im going to be setting up for ice, wet, dry. just need to wait for a wet day now, and an icy one lol.

Your resistor will do no more than hinder a signal. Where have you put the resistor exactly?! How can it possibly average two switched transitor outputs?!

This is Britain mate, you shouldn't need to wait long for any of those

Some sun might be a little trickier to get though

the resistor was an idea suggested to me by a mate, to be honest it may work perfectly fine without one, i havent tried removing it yet, il try it and let you know.
