Freeflow Exhaust manifold

Postby James_Si on Mon Mar 28, 2005 8:10 pm

Hi all :) , a couple of questions here about a new exhaust manifold.

1. (and most important) Where can i get one, either off-the-shelf or made up for my 1.6 Si?

2. How much would it cost?

3. Can i pass my emissions test with a freeflow manifold and the cat still on, plus a cat-back exhaust system?

Thanks.

i think trust electrical make an exhaust manifold for the zetec fiesta's.
Cant see why it shouldnt pass emissions as your cat is still there

Cheers, i looked on Trust Electrical's website and they have one.

I'll give them a ring and see about getting one.

Perhaps they could even convert me into a 2.0 :)

Also do a search on the US ebay for "Focus Header" theres a company called SSautochrome that do a manifold for the focus. Its for the black top (series 3) Zetec which should fit the silver top (series 1 &2) zetec. You'd have to get a pipe made up to join your existing system but apparently its the same for the trust electrical one.

I spoke to Sunil about his trust electrical manifold and he said the trust electrical wasn't very good and rather get someone like simpson racing to make hime a manifold.

HTH :)

The best one i've seen off the shelf is a Dunnell one made from mild steel but at a price of £700 and the Mountune 4-2-1 in stainless steel or mild steel. Focus Sports Race headers is a good one but you really need a strater motor at the back of the engine block for it to fit, a Focus sport street headers will fit but you will need the Focus down pipe to fit. The trust one is ok but not the best.

Thanks for that info.

Not sure that i'd want to spend £700 on it though.

Does any body know about improving the existing manifold by removing some sensors inside them? Would that see any power gains?

Dont remove sensors from your exhaust system unless you want s**t MPG's I've heard of people removing the Lambda (A.K.A HEGO) sensor from there cars and being as much as 100 mpg's lower than before. I think you mean the air pulse system though, I have done it to my car along with a few other people, i think there would be a slight difference as the restriction isn't there but i wouldn't have said i could really notice it. I dont really think the design of the standard manifold was good really either.

The trust electrical one is aweful, I've fitted a few and they all needed modifying and welding, Your best bet is an ashley mild steel item or have a custome item made somewhere like simpson race exhausts though this would be expensive IRO £600+
Ashley one is about £200 if your interested PM me and I can get you a defo price.
BTW we also do 2.0 engine conversions you will prob of seen our work in Performance ford and Fast ford recently.

Cheers

I did mean the Air pulse system, sorry.

I'm gonna remove it soon becuase i've learnt it's only used to warm the cat up and won't affect the MOT once the car is at running temperature.

Cheers for the manifold info. I'm going to contact X-Factor about the 2.0 conversion.

You keep the Fiesta manifold went converting don't you?
The only thing that changes is the Block, Head, E.C.U and Throttle body i beleive.

The ashley manifold is mild steel so can esily be welded to the CAT pipe and it fits better than the TE one under the car.
I am still looking into the possibility of a run of custome 4-1 manifolds for the fiesta zetec in Stainless steel but I need at least 10 people interested to bring the price down.
The manifold is made to fit the series 1 Zetec-E
