French Runaround - Branding (17/06)

Postby Tweek on Sun Feb 06, 2011 11:41 am

&Peugeot 306 HDI Meridion in Moonstone Blue. Has some nice gadgets such as aircon, rear electric windows and automatic windscreen wipers. These are like rocket science to me

Bit of an upgrade from the Corsa which is slowly dying a horrid death. Trust my luck it's another 5-door :D I hate the alloys so will probably stick some GTI-6 Cyclones on, possibly a backbox, new cd player and a tuning box. That's it.

First pictures after the maiden journey home. I actually really like it!

Looks sweet mate, only colour I would ever have one in myself,

Like you say, a set of gti-6 wheels will transform it,

My van has a Dragon Performance tuning box and it works very well

Looks tidy and ideal for a runaround. Nicest colour as well

Will look good on some GTi6 wheels

Sure Max will have some suggestions for modifications as he has had a few of these in various model phases

I think its the worst colour! Apart from the pale metallic blue but you cant get that on this year anyway.

Remap over tuning box any day, bloke on pug306.net will send you a proven one by email for £80 then buy the tool to apply it via laptop for £40.

Good cars really, I'm looking for another at the moment.

They are 90bhp non intercooled Hdi, as opposed to intercooled 110 which wasn't available in the 306 annoyingly.

You should de-cat it, replace the midsection with a new part then make a backbox out of the old midsection - common mod. Also unplug the EGR!

I had a look underneath it yesterday whilst familiarising myself with a few things. Jacking points and axle-stand points I've used on the Fiesta and the Corsa seem to just bend on the 306  Also, much to my annoyance, the exhaust appears to be welded at every single joint?! Cat looks brand new on it though.

I do have a few little mods I'm planning. These so far include the following:

LED sidelight bulbs from Fiesta/Corsa (done and looking very nice)
Osram Diadem indicator bulbs
Yellow brake callipers
GTI-6 Cyclone alloys
Sportex oval backbox (unless anyone knows of another which will go straight on?)
French metal pressed plates? Opinions?
A decent head unit and speakers, also rehousing the sub from the Fiesta into this.

The rear just looks a bit bland to me too. Not going to bother lowering it, ride quality is good whilst having impressive handling.

Have contacted some folks breaking ph3 306s on ebay too for a fusebox cover (missing), central air vents (broken) and a coolant level sensor which flickers a bit on some bumpy roads then goes out and stays out. May require more investigating on that one but it's not losing water. French electrics eh?

After my bible (Haynes manual) arrives I'll whip off the timing belt cover and see if it looks original or changed, then get that done asap if required. Hopefully bring it to a show at some point, Trax or Combe are the only ones I can think of.

Finally, in other news, the Corsa was sold, paid for and driven away within 18 hours of advertising it :D

Glove boxes on cars with aircon/passenger airbag are useless! PH1's have a MASSIVE lower glove box and another one where the airbag is on passenger side!

Jacking points are useless yes, they are generally annoying to lift/support! There are strong (ish) bits near the front just behind the wheel arch and I think I used to use the bottom of the shock on the back!

Exhausts are bolted at the turbo flange, then a joint just behind the cat to a midsection which will join just before the backbox with an annoying 'doughnut' style french fitting (useless) nothing should be welded!

I hate those bluey indicator bulbs and the orange ones are hardly visible in the front/rear anyway?! GTi6 splitter would be money better spent

Was just about to try and sell you a spoiler, but realised yours has had one fitted at some point. Looks colour-coded too which none were from the factory.

I had a Sportex on my 1.9TD, the box is tiny and fairly restrictive looking. You will be better off making a straight pipe or midsection backbox and picking a tailpipe from somewhere (gti6?)

Sorry loads of points but I have experience fiddling with 3x 306's!

Exhaust is definitely welded at the backbox joint lol, ghey. I wouldn't have known about the spoiler not being factory, it looks it, someone's done a tidy job there then!

Sportex is out of the equation now then :bonkers:

Where can I find one of these splitters? got 0 results after a quick ebay search.

Spoiler is standard on Dturbo's only in 5dr guise!

Splitter from Peugeot! About £35 I think, also get some Xsara mist washer jets (part numbers for both on pug306.net, you can get the xsara jets from pug too)

I only deal with petrol 306's, but heres some mods you might enjoy

-Xsara washer jets
-GE quickshift
-Gti6 brakes

Will transform it.

Lowering is easy and cheap.Only springs on the front, rear is torsion bar so only costs you time.

Yellow gti6 brakes with cyclones

Quickshift could be useful actually, gates seem miles apart, apart from 3rd and 5th which feel like siamese twins.

I like the pic ;)

Well, shortly after owning a French car, I get involved in my first accident. Guy behind me in a Hilux wasn't paying attention and pulled away from the traffic lights with 3 cars in front of him, first being me *sigh* :(

Image

Bullbar did the damage. 2 dents in the boot, 2 marks on the bumper and it's popped out of the arch clips.

Well, the fella at fault booked it straight into a bodyshop for me. Was collected at 9:30 last Sunday morning and was returned before 2pm same day. Dents pushed out and bumper skimmed over. paint blend out lines are kinda noticable up the sides of the boot but other than that I can't fault the turnaround :)

That's like someone crashing into the back of you and saying "It's only an old Fiesta, can't ask for it to be perfect."

Other than the paint blend lines it's spot on really. Fresher and shinier than it was before crash.
