front arms, talk to me
put pattern part front arms on my fiesta 50 miles ago and there raped already
so, i wanted this sorted for good now.
i went on area 6, they do camber adjustable ones for 130 squid, are these just pattern parts that have been driled out, or genuine ford ones.
i spke to ford, they want £100 for a pair of arms,
or i can get poly bushes for 90 quid,
can you fit pollybushes into pattern front arms, or do you need to fit them into genuine arms.???????
what have you lot done to solve the front arm eating problem, and im board of getting new tyres every month

Re: front arms, talk to me
yeh deflex are s**t
i have genuine ford lower arms ( i get a discount at ford) with the standard bushes replaced by powerflex items
if u do get polybushes, u need to get them professionally pushed into the lower arm. any garage should be able to do this for u

If you want a good handling car- set up front end to elimante tyre wear and bushing wear...
buy the rose jointed adjustable lower arms from area - six..
yes you pay alot for them but the benefits are alot too gain..
less tyre wear...for starters, more grip, faster accleration, better cornering, better stability and your wallet is not busted every month for new tyres and lower arms...
I can highly recommend them...
if the rose joint bearing does wear.. its like £20 for a new one... although i have sourced for cheaper...

I fitted genuine Ford ones the other month, coupled with it being lowered 40mm am I likely to be replacing them every few thousand miles?

Re: front arms, talk to me
what you need to consider is that as standard the car sits at a desired height from factory....
this is basically so thatt the geomtry works to how it was designed..
when you lower the car the wheel stays fixed on its axis so will without doubt camber towards the inside of the arch, it does this due to the lower arm being put a tighter angle as the shock is forcing it to do so..
The bushes therfore are at an angle also...
take a look at a standard unlowered fiesta then at one lowered from the front underneath...
the lowered ones arms are at a steep angle, thats why the bushes wear and cause the inside edge of the tyres.
Putting adjustable lower arms will alter that angle and give the tyre a better footing on the road and reduce the amount of stress on the bushing or rose joint etc. It still sits at an angle but not as much and without the side effect of new tyres every month or two.

Re: front arms, talk to me
I'm glad i just read this cos the inside of my tyres are worn down to nothing... again
In the summer I changed the following..arb bushes, drop links and lower arms, then new tyres and the tracking done.
All these parts were changed because of a knocking noise and it solved the problem
Anyway i had to jack up the car the other day and noticed the tyres were bald again...they have only been on about 8-9 weeks!!! i thought maybe it was the trackrod ends cos these wer'nt changed plus the camber is very bad too,it makes the tyres look flat all the time
so i'm glad i read this.....but whats the best lower arms to get, also what about changing the track rod ends???

Re: front arms, talk to me
so those of you with genuine ford arms, are you still going through them quickly and suffering s**t tyre wear?
and what about these camber adjustable area 6 ones, the non rose jointed ones? do they wear out quickly, start to get very board with this constant problems with front suspension

Re: front arms, talk to me
i gen use QH arms, as good as ford imo.
i had a unipart one on there for 5 years, ok i had to change the ball joint but it lasted bloody well, i was shocked as i thinking unipart stuff is dog $hit, but i got it cheap through a mate that worked at a motor factors at the time as it was needed for mot.
im not going to disagree with anyone on these area siz jobbies etc, but all i will say is what is the point for a road car, if you can fcuk a pair of bottom arms in no time then you got to look at what is making them get b0llocked out, may the car is too low, you drive down dirt tracks fast etc etc

Re: front arms, talk to me
The arms on mine( rs1800 ) were ford arms, then i put on a pair from our local auto parts now i'm back to more inner wear again my car is all standard and is just a back and for to work car, so no ragging it about
I'm just not sure what to put on it to stop the damn tyre wear!!! Would changing the track rod ends help too.?

Re: front arms, talk to me
sowwie andymac my bad
so the general consensus is, ford ones might last me a year, then ill buy poly bushed for them and do the camber mod, im not paying some one to drill out 3 rivets and open some holes up.
thanks for all the replys.
do unipart have a website? wouldnt mind not spneding £110 tbh on gen parts lol

Deflex engine mounts can snap so i won't want to try lower arms just in case the wheel comes off
