front wheel bearing

Postby jonyb4 on Wed May 27, 2009 1:30 am

i have a mk4 fez and my ns front wheel bearing is making a throbbing noise maybe its time has come, ive had the hub off and i had a real go at trying to get the bearing out but to no luck, anyone got any advice on how to get it out?

i was considering just buying another hub from a scrappy, would be easier, but wont be as good as actually changing mine since a new one is better then an old bearing right?

Depends how cheap you can get one. If its like £10 or something then do it. or even if its cheaper than an actual bearing, do it. Just try to get one with the lowest amount of miles.

As for getting the wheel bearing out, get the big f**k off hammer out! :D lol.

Getting it in wont be easy either unless you have the tools.

Scrappy job :)

Take the hub off mate and if you dont have access to a press, nip it to your local garage with the new bearing and they should Press it in for a fiver for you and it will take all of 2 mins.I know i do :)
that way its cheapness AND new bearing

just realised this is in the mods section :(

umm they got a press in college, so you press it out? and press new one in?

ont he other hand how probable is it that its the bearing actually gone? ive noticed it doing it for past 2-3 weeks now,and im getting worried that its gonna seeze and my wheel is gonna start to over take me ont he road :( they are kinda nice alloys lol
not to mention the car being f**cked

my dads adament it just needs repacking with greese but i really dont see that being the case, if a bearing sgone its gone nothing but a new one will sort that, end of the day grease only lubricates

thanks again Jon
