FRST Chip recommendations and oil cooler fitting

Postby Escort Cos on Wed Aug 27, 2003 11:12 am

Can anyone recommend a decent chip for my FRST and why? prehaps remappable.

I'm not use to all this ECU me larky as I used carbs a lot in the past.

I have also got a mocal oil cooler and oil stat off my old car I want to fit but I know the fiesta rst uses it's own oil cooler which has the water going through it.

If I wanted to get rid of this to put the mocal oil stat in it's place, would I just simpley take both the hoses off the old RS oil cooler and join them together?

right well it depends on what you want to do with the car and how uch you tune it as to what chip to buy really....

uni chip is remappable, but alot of ppl dont like them for some reason!!

as for fitting the oil cooer get a sandwich plate with take offs.... thuis will then let ya fit your cooler... no need to remove the existing one!

170bhp would be nice. What would I need to do to get that. I want to keep the existing T2 turbo aswell.

I already have a sandwich plate which has a built in oil stat but I just wanted to know how I would go about removing the old RST oil cooler as it has water pipes attached to it.

absolutly no need to remove the standard unit, works fine as it is, heat transfer unit, i run 200bhp with no probs with oil or water temps, even in summer heat.

unichip is fine, its wot i run at present, easy to fit never had a prob, 170 bhp is fine with T2 max is about 180 b4 u have flowing issues, t2`s are prone to cracking though due to the heat, look at head work, cam, new gaskets and other bits and bobs as extra bhp without strengthing and making sure everything is pukka will just get u an unreliable engine. spk to me on msn if your on it, you`ll need a decent intake cooler though, can stick to standard injectors for that bhp though
