FRST uprated fuel pump

Postby Quantum John on Tue Jul 02, 2002 5:18 pm

I've done a search but can't find exactly the info I'm after.
It is: at what point do you need to use an uprated fuel pump and what one?
I've got a 2.1 ZVH with hybrid T2. It is going to be rolling roaded soon, now that it is run in and it will be chipped but I don't intend to run loads of boost. Guess I'll be looking at approx 200bhp. Will I need to have an uprated pump first?
As I understand it the standard Escort Turbo pump is the same as an uprated FRST one. Is this true?

Cheers,
John

the uprated pump that is used for the fiesta is the uprated escort cosworth one your fiesta pump will be right one the limit and just to be on the safe side change your pump i`ve got a 1.9 cvh t3 cosworth management and i had to change the pump at a cost of £150 just for the pump. what car is it in because the fiesta is a in tank pump and the escort pump is on the car body.

there is alot of confusion about these pumps.
when its on the rollers get them to hook up a fuel pressure gauge and see if the pump can cope.
on mine ive took out the diaphram unit out the tank and the pump will supply up to 6 bar and plenty of flow.
195 chip bieges t3 flowed head 285t2 pace cooler
list goes on.
so save money and get checked out first.
hth
thanks

Thanks guys. Differing opinions but before I change it I'll get it checked with a pressure regulator.
My Quantum H4 kit car (looks like an Mazada MX-5, sorry for swearing) uses all the bits from an FRST. So it has the standard tank and pump from that. The pump is also a bit noisy which gave me the thought that it might be working a bit harder.

Cheers,
John

if ure using a FRST management system you will need to run beige injectors ! aswell as an uprated fuel pump !

It will run lean over 3k rpm in my 1800 zvh !

also a T2 blower may strugle i recomend a T3 !

Jim Hearne route then  his site is my bible !

Keep boost to arround 12 Psi or pistons gona go !

u will find it will run real lean without the fuel ! this is whats holding up my ZVH !

Cheers Craig.

Yeah, Jim's site is great. I known him quite well, as you might have guessed seeing as we both own Qunatum's!
Jim's is built from an ERST so his pump is outside the tank not inside like my FRST one.

Will try a pressure reg then a new pump probably!

fyi
mine has bieges and runs 15psi boost and holds just over 7% co.
so definately not running lean.
just a thought but try fuel reg pressure gauge first.
its expensive enough moding cars without buying bits u dont really need.
thanks

yeah Orion T but Quantum here is running a 2.1 and im on a 1.8 ! not a 1.6

greater volume in cylinder and 1.6 fuel measure will mean lean and bang !!

thus fueling needs to be increased !

ok far enough
but fitting a bigger pump wont put more fuel in the engine thats down to injector size and dweel of pulse to open them.
i dont disspute that fitting a bigger pump is a good move, just that its worth trying a check on his exsisting one first.
thanks
