Fuel pump/sender unit
Hello folks,
Hoping for a little help here, after having to retire from the snowman rally in February due to no fuel, I discovered on removing the fuel tank that the small valve type thing with push connectors between the pump and the pipe connection had rattled loose. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what this valve thing does and if I could get away with removing it and replacing with fuel hose? Also does anyone know what he small box between the pump wiring and connector does?
Many thanks!

It's a fuel damper and they always cause issues just replace it with some fuel pipe

Re: Fuel pump/sender unit
The round thing is a fuel pulsing damper, it has a membrane inside to rectify the pulses from the pump, and to help ease fuel pressure variations during alteration in fuel supply. Trouble is that after all these years, if they don't leak,( and making the fuel pump work harder to maintain fuel pressure), there is no membrane inside anymore so this is useless... just remove it. The small box between the fuel pump and the electricall connector, is a capacitor and a coil, it is part of the suppression network that Ford installed to eliminate electrical noise that could cause trouble to the ECU. It consists of another supressor that is usualy bolted on the coilpack, another supressor in the signal wiring of the OFAB map sensor, the well known rectangular thing with the 3 wires, (OFAC hasn't one installed), a wire that is connected between the bonnet and the chassis and also the ignition cables which must be supressed too. It is well documented in the Ford microcat. ECUs are very sensitive in electric noise and static current and the engine rooms are very prone to create such noises. Especially OFAB management which has an analog map sensor can do weird things to engine running, OFAC is digitally controlling the fuelling.
