Gearbox noise

Gearbox noise

Postby Ruaraidh on Sun Jan 24, 2016 10:55 pm

Hi folks

Just wanted some advise please. I have an rs turbo gearbox with an 1800 Zetec in my xr2i. There is some slight whirring/bearing kind of noise when the car is sat still in neutral Idling. Use noise disappears completely when the clutch is pressed down.

A few people keep telling me clutch release bearing but I believe those would be the other way round? The bearing is silent when engaged with the clutch but the noise is there when the pedal is not pressed down.

I've made sure the cable is jot dragging on the clutch at all (tried it disconnected) gearbox works perfect, no noise when moving and goes in to gear perfectly. Wondered if it's maybe fairly normal for an older gearbox or should I be worried about it?

Many thanks :) :)

Hi, I would agree and say its just the clutch release bearing, I wouldn't worry to much just keep an eye on it make sure it doesn't get any worse, if it does get really bad have to swap it out
