when i brake i get a grinding, but it appears to be coming from the rear?

are the rear drums used when braking??? if this is so, its obvious i need new brakes, but need to check :)

cheers

Yes they do, but only slighty. New ones don't cost too much. but get decent ones as you will rarely have to open the drums up to replace them.

yeah could well be the rear brakes, the pads arent exactly thick when they are new, so after a good few thousand miles they will disappear

grinding at rear means your rear shoes are really really worn.

get them changed post haste! as the grinding is metal against metal - not good for your drums at all.
