GTI - Detailed 6/8/10
well sold TTF over 2 weeks ago now and im not missing it one bit. everyones been asking a what is it and few people know already know, henrys already been in it
It is a VW Polo GTi. its a 2000, with 4 owners think im the fourth cant remember. just gone over 86k which is seems to be a little lower mileage compared to a lot i looked at. Its silver, i ideally wanted a red one but seemed to be harder to find. I bought it with the clutch on the way out so knocked him down abit, clutch was sorted yesterday, along with a new bearing and fresh gearbox oil.
as somone asked its a 1.6 16v 125bhp
has got a few things needs sorting on it like the dink in the front bumper and 1 or 2 other places but other than that it in good condition. the service light is on so thats 1 of the next things to do, and also the brakes are wearing thin so ill be doing them as well.
such a nice car to drive and so easy, the steering is so light. and its a lot quicker than the old si which is what i wanted really and mainly something that won't rust before my eyes. its nice and compact inside quite like the fiesta but just more modern, i dont like a lot of modern car's dashes becasue they protrude so much when they dont need to, which results in less space for the driver and passenger, which is why i liked the fiesta mk3, and now the gti
although im not to bothered about creature comforts in cars, its always nice to have if its there climate control and a few other bits.
havent done anything to it apart from sort the radio out as it hand no connector into the headunit, becasue one of the previous owners decided to cut all the wires and make their own plug and get most of the wires round the wrong way
also hoovered it out, cleaned it outside and underbonnnet, only very briefly but got some pics from when i did it(below)
plans are in no particular order:
Green Stuff pads all round
Coilovers, so its on the floor
some nice euro alloys
also re-furb the standards
exhuast of some sort
polybush all round
replace rear speakers as 1 has blown
replace headunit as its rubbish
smooth the front bumper taking out the bump strip but leaving the headlight washers
move the plate to the grill
de-badge the rear and de-wiper
new plates
and some various interior upgrades.
also literally with in the last half hour some burk decided to drive through a spot were only 1 car ever goes through at a time, whilst its my right of way and as a result he has hit my o/s mirror smashed the glass and slightly cracked the casing. so i will get a replacement mirror tomorrow and probably leave the cae for now till i can be arsed to sort it.
want to have it handling even better than my old si, and this feels a hell of a lot btter as standard than the si, so im already ahead.
enough talking heres some pics not many but hope to get some more at the south eaast meet tomorrow

Re: Polo 6n2 GTI... 15/2/10
well on sunday finally got the oportuniy to take the wheels off and just check the arches and the various components. whilst i was there thought i would wash the calipers as they were a fair bit grimy.
before
after
shows the lips need refurbing
also whats this,
the first thing i went to vw and bought was a set of mats as mine didnt have any and i hate driving without mats. after about 2 weeks they are finally here special delivery from Germany. They no longer do the GTI mats with the red lip but im not bothered.
in the car
also i did say the other day someone hit my mirror. well ive had a bit of luck as whilst the parts man was playing with the wires in my mirror he took the case off then when putting it back on, he saw the crack from the hit the other day, and he thought he had caused it. so he has ordered a brand new one from VW and its being sprayed this week so BONUS!
hope to get the brakes done soonish to

Looks good, my mate has one of these in silver. Got it lowered with 16s and looks very good with just that done.

Re: Polo 6n2 GTI...Serviced + 22/2/10
Since ive had the car one of the things i wanted to sooner rather than later was to service it. the service light was on and i had no receipts for a last service within the last few years. So yesterday in the pooring rain Henry popped round an gave me hand to service it.
Didnt do a full service of the car just:
Oil Filter
Oil Change
Air Filter
Spark Plugs (Not yet in but will be asap)
Cabin Filter (Will take it out and hoover it tomorrow)
So glad ive done it now as the oil came out black and who knows when it was last done. Will also turn off the service light tomorrow if i remember. Runs a lot quieter now as well.
Didnt get many pics
the old air filter, so oily
Henry wrapped up in sheet to try and stay dry
Finished without the cover put back on
Also picked up my *free* mirror cover as well during the week so fitted that once Henry had gone and it has briefly stopped raining
Pic of the old one which got cracked when the car hit me, replaced because a VW parts mn thought he broke it when he was fiddling with my mirror
Next on the list is brakes. also purchased some wheels yesterday so wach out for updates

That sheet just makes me wonder what Henry looks like in a dress.
He won't admit it, but I'm sure he was thinking the same thing anyway...

I did breifly imagine it was a dress, but my enjoyment ended soon after as it became saturated, along with all the other clothes i was wearing. There was a lot of rain. I book a long weekend off work and it rains the whole time, amazing

Re: Polo 6n2 GTI - wheels on 22/3/10
well these are my wheels as seen in some pics already
they are keskin 15" 8j wide all round in toyo t1r's
pics by hb
they are nice and suit it well but i think when its lowered it will rub to much so they may have to go back up for sale.
also sorted a new sun visor for it as when i got it the glass was broken
let me know what u think

Think for those wheels to work they need lower profile tyres. Otherwise, when its lowered would look good on the original wheels, done in anthracite

not sure on the new wheels, could just be the ride height and profile though.
what are these like to drive? I've always liked the look of these and the Lupo GTi

Re: Polo 6n2 GTI - detailed 4/4/10
gave the car a quick detailing session on friday as a mate of mine is getting into detailing, so may as well take advantage of it
some pics through out the process. didnt polish or wax it just used detailer at the end. just good to get it realy clean again as to what it should be as it probably hasn't been properly cleaned since new 10 years ago, could see all the dirt coming out from behind the bumpstrips
before
snow foamed
2 bucket method
then washed off, used water magnet then used dodo juice detailer, red mist
and obligatory reflection shot
also de-badged the polo off the boot the other day, unsure about the gti yet, probably will at some point
let me know what ya think peeps
