Guide to Removing Shock Absorbers for fittin Lowerin Springs
Well tonight i finished lowering my fiesta, so well the idea was still fresh in my head id thought id post a couple of sketches i drew on paint, they arent great but you get the idea.
Tools/Equipment you will need
19mm Socket, Ratchet Handle and Ideally a bar you can attach to the end of the ratchet handle, because the back ones tend to be tight.
Spring Clamps
Can of WD40
2 Trolley jacks and 2 lengths of thin wood
Lump hammer or hammer
Allen Keys
19mm ring spanner
Right, for the rear shock absorbers, look at this picture:
You will firstly need to remove the wheels obviously after you have jacked the car up.(use trolley jacks and lenghts of wood along the sills tto stop them from collapsing)
You then need a 19mm socket and you need to undo the bottom bolt on the shock where it goes thru the rear beam. Spray wd40 on these too.
When you have both nuts off go inside the boot and undo the nuts in there, (cant remeber what size they are) you may need someone to put there weight on the hub and push down so you can get the shock leg out.
When its out the top should come off and the spring should come out, you dont need to use spring clamps on the rears. Fit the new spring and reverse process for putting it back together.
Now for the fronts, slightly more challenging.
Look at this diagram
First again you need to jack up the sides and remove the wheels either side as you did on the rears.
You then need to unclip the brake lines, dont be viscious with them.
You then need to set your 19mm socket and ratchet handle on the 19mm bolt near the brakeline you just unclipped undo that one first.
Then go into the engine bay, remove the plastic tops off the bolts either side ( you should know where your looking ). a 19mm ring spanner on the nut and undo. When they are undone you need a lump hammer or and hammer, you need to hit behind the hub area so that the shock comes out of the hub assembly. The shock will then come free.
This time its different.
You need to set a pair of spring clamps on either spring to take away the pressure, and remove the bolt on top of the shock as you did when you removed the shocks from the engine bay area, (allen key and ring spanner method and motion)
When you have sussed that and put the new springs on then you can simply refit.
Make sure you undo/redo all your nuts and bolts up carefully, use plenty of wd40, and clean bolts whem they are removed.
If theres anything no one is clear on just ask here.
Hope this is of use [/u]

YEah thought it would be handy, ill also try and draw some diagrams of the shock absorbers whenthey are off the car, but once they are off the car its common sense what you do next.

Nice post, well done. This is covered in the haynes modifying manual, so you might be able to get some pictures from in there.
When you say undo the bolts in the boot, you will need to be more specific! If the wrong one is undone you would be releasing the spring And dont forget to chock the front wheels when the rear of the car is off the ground.

Not really imho because, with the greatest of respect, the Haynes manual details the process in much better terms.
Also, this guide also seem to lack any original tips or tricks which would otherwise qualify it to be a quide.
Oh, and it was written by a band member
