**H702 DEG (C8 RST) back on track! (sort of)**
After many months of inactivity, work has now restarted on H702. I have had four striaght days off and have tried to get as much done as possible. First job was to repair the drivers sill which was damaged at the front end and was a bit rotten at the rear. Rather than replace the whole thing i cut sections from a new sill and repaired the damaged bits only.
Next up was the rear panel, it was rotten all along the join with the boot floor.
I then attacked the roof skin. It had been damaged in a bonnet openeing manouvre at high speed so i replaced it with a non-sunroof version to save weight.
Next parts up for replacemant are the front panel, croosmember and front wings. The scuttle also shows some damage from the bonnet opening incident so i will attempt to repair it. If it doesn't look too good it will also be replaced.

Bloody fook, you're really ripping through the thing aren't you?! I didn't know you were planning on taking it all quite this far. I thought it was going to be a thorough seam-welding and waxoyling then re-assembly, didn't realise all this was in store. No wonder you've been putting it off! Only way to make one of these cars last a very long time....good luck with the rest of the time off you have!

Awesome work!!! Those spot welds look very neat!
Oh and what was the rear valence/panel like to replace? was it tricky to get it under the lip of the rear quarters?

Is the roof only being replaced because of the bonnet incident, or was this already planned to be done?

festasi : wudnt it hav been easier to hav a whole new shell
I do have a whole new shell, just not this one. I wanted to keep the H702 reg, plus I would of needed to seam weld another shell and change roof skin anyway.
sphinx :what was the rear valence/panel like to replace? was it tricky to get it under the lip of the rear quarters?
You need to unpick slightly further round on the back panel to allow you to bend the rear quarters back. The back panel goes in with a bit of brute force to spring the light panels back a bit.
chumkila :S1 is like Superman and Del Boy mixed into one!!
How dare you Chum , I have never, nor will I, wear my pants outside my tights, well only in the bedroom for Banafell
FezzR : any reason you've not gone for serious weight saving pannel wise, other than cost?
Plain roof skin weighs naff all compared to sunroof version anyway. Doors are gonna be gutted totally with perspex sliders instead of the wind-up onesto lose more weight.
mike_wall15 :Will the car be having a full respray? Tempted by another colour?
Will be repainted, not sure on a colour change, quite like the red as it is.

I would of replaced it anyway, sunroof weighs a ton!

Only got as far as removing front crossmember and passenger wing this weekend. I've got some seamwelding left to do in the engine bay and then I can put the new crossmember and wings on. After that I need to cut out and repair the rear arch. Still need to sort out some arches.

Made a bit of progress recently. Decided to change the scuttle as it was a bit mangled.
Scuttle gone. Cleaned up the screen aperture metal and gave it a coat of zinc-rich primer before welding in the new panel.
New crossmember is in.
new scuttle in
wings & frontpanel ready for lining up
Kevlar bonnet on
Underside of bonnet
