**H702 DEG (C8 RST) back on track! (sort of)**
said before paul looks great some aspects i wish i'd have done to mine curious on the cooler tho single pass?? also you not think on going a slightly thicker core?? surely with a thicker core there would not have been such a need for the size??? i always got told the thicker cores were better than the thin ones as it coolers the air better ???
just curious
pic of mine below as you did speak to me before about my system its a 63mm thick core unsure on the height and length its been a while but the act's are LOW

All looks spanking, green and black looks sharp
Ad - A thick, larrrrge twin pass would be silly, however a thick core with large surface area working as a single pass is a good way to do things. Until you've calculate flow rates and temperature drops it's hard to pick out one intercooler as being more efficient than another, or how much it affects the pressure, it all depends on the core used

One question....
How does the radiator keep the engine cool if you block the air flow completely with that massive intercooler ?
I presume u keep the fan on permanently

Car is looking awesome so far Top work
Oh, just so you know, that was me in the grey Focus you were stuck behind till Woodham yesterday! I would have done the universal hello of sticking my thumb up or somthing, but you'd probably think i was some scally after a race or something The RS sounded good when you shot past, i assume it's not standard anymore
Anyway, reminded me to check out the Festa on here, see how that was going!

Poor little boy. Are you referring to his strut? Or his dump?
Regarding Paul's cooler...as long as it doesn't give higher charge temps or increase the pressure drop, it's worth it. It all depends on the cores and end tanks

Yes but it makes more work for him with little (if any) improvement/ effect, as the car came with a GRS fitted.
This was proven to handle it & no doubt would still do the biz for a long while yet!
Oh and then theres the pipework routing which needs to be changed. I would have thought it to be easier all round to turn the GRS into a single pass!

More work for little effect? That's the basis of motor sport and performance improvement matey Running the GRS core as a single pass would probably be a bad idea and result in significantly higher ACTs.

Sorry but doesnt the bonnet block the EXTRA part of that intercooler? So in theory a wasted effort.
The GRS had more surface area exposed.
But then what would i know about fiesta's

Ahh missed that pic, i was looking at Ade's pic.
Oh and we looked at mounting the GRS lower down (even had the pipes re positioned by Graham) but it was far to low for my liking..........
One 'off' on track & its would be buggered!
Still think its overkill esp if said engines staying the same!
Ps Paul, if anybody refers to that being Paul Ripleys old car..........I'd be a monkeys uncle!

You clearly don't understand! You know what this car was built to do - go up the strip quickly, so any gains that can be made are not lost causes. Add together such things as 200g lost by gutting the front bumper (guessed figure), 50g by trimming the dash (guess), a 3 degree drop in ACTs (guess), manually controlled fan to stop current draw, polycarb windows, GRP tailgate and bonnet etc...and you come out with a number of improvements that WILL help the car accelerate better. If you're going to say "It won't help much, I won't bother doing that", you'll make no gains.

WTF has any of that got to do with the intercooler??
All of the cosmetic/weight mods will help no end, but then i do believe the car had the right balance when Ripley had it.
Jesus now i remember why we lost the love for this site.
Have fun Paul.

C8 RST :WTF has any of that got to do with the intercooler??
It's all perfectly relevant because you were saying you thought there seemed to be little point in looking for improvements with the intercooler as there were no major gains to be had over the GRS. I'm saying any gain is one worth making, be it in terms of lowered ACTs or reduced car weight, however small that gain may be.
None of this is personal dude, just as in the PF thread, I don't know why you've suddenly got your back up No bad beans as far as I'm concerned...you asked questions, made statements, I came back with my own. I didn't make fun of your clothes!!!

Yes but as far as i'm aware Paul isnt doing anything else to the engine, its as it was before.
So in MY EYES ONLY he's made it so much quicker by removing all that he has!
The only way to tell would be a back to back test on them both!

Yeah that's right, the engine will stay as it is spec-wise It sounded like there were one or two holes in the map in a video I watched of Ripley blasting up Brunters, so maybe someone will run around in it to check the map's sweet, and possibly a boost tweak...dunno. It'd be very interesting to leave the engine as is and get times with full interior, standard panels/glass and GRS etc, then times with it stripped and in the form it's in now...not sure Paul would be up for the hours necessary to swap from road to race though Maybe he'd let us blunder into his garage with screwdrivers and save him the hassle
