wow !!

I can't believe i've only just found this thread, although i must admit i was directed (cheers Jay).

Paul - hats off to you mate, i will stop harrassing you with questions in my own threads and abuse this thread instead :D . Have you any idea what you've spent on it to get it to this standard?

Its certainly gonna give me some inspiration when i get back to mine. It kinda makes mine look like a right bodge job. Now i've got mine in a proper workshop i think i'll be following suit when i get home. Bit hard to produce something like that in a standard garage with B&Q tools lol.

Never really thought about gutting out the bumpers either, are those brackets custom made or off the shelf?

More questions to follow, I'll be back.

I've put this in Members' Gallery now. I reckon it's only fair on everyone else, as it's really become a members' gallery post. :)

I've just spent ages trying to find this post, it was in General Forum last time I looked! Cheers Alex

She's alive, alive I tell you!

Having not really done much for about 6 months work has started in earnest again. I've nearly finished off the wiring, just got the 2-stage boost control to sort. I ended up moving the battery-cut-off cos I thought it was s**t where it was down by the drivers seat. Its now on a new section under the dash along with a new ignition switch and switch for the electric fan which allows me to run the fan continuously, have it on thermostat or switch it off altogether. Battery is now plumbed in and for the first time in two years i switched on the ignition!
Indicators and lights worked without any nasty burning smells so its looking good :D . Bound to be a few teething troubles with it but I'm optimistic!

Ford Racing Gauges back in along with the ACT gauge.

I've just ordered another set of Polycarb windows after the last company let me down last year, I think thats when I lost heart and gave up. Anyway, gone for a set of bronze tint with fixed front glass and sliders.

Once the wiring is sorted out I'm gonna pay some attention in getting the HO RS1800 inlet fanimold fitted. I need to give Lee @ fusion a bell to sort a fuel rail. Next after that is to get the fuel system fully-aeroquipped.

Bodywork-wise I reckon I have given up on the Kevlar bonnet, nice n light but its flimsy as fook, I reckon it would fly off at the sort of speeds it can do!

Finally, you've posted a photo that almost shows people how good the paint is :D The light reflection on the bulkhead under the dash shows some of the flake, I love the paint on it, polished up that thing will be a beaut! It's so nice to see things light up and turn on and off after soooo so long, best feeling in the worrrrld :Q It's a shame you can't make use of the bonnet...how about bonding in steel inlays to do enough, but still keep it light? :)

I already had some done to go along the back edge of the bonnet but ideally it needs then along the front and all edges.

Think I'm just gonna get medieval on a genuine FRST bonnet, make it look like swiss cheese!!

It'll still weigh a fooking tonne though won't it? What's the weight difference at the moment? 6kg vs 15kg? I say lob 2kg of strengthening tabs all over the Kevlar bonnet :D I know it's a bit of work, but surely that's a good option, something to try at least?

Car cost me £5800, I spent a few K on it before this rebuild. Not sure how much I've spent on this build but it must be in the region of 5 or 6 K so far. There's at least another 1.5 K, nearer to 2K to go.

Bumper brackets are fabricated by my good self, they took a while to get right.

Thanks to MotaScootayCodPiece and abley assisted by his partner in crime Vix, i have managed to get the doors back on, new polycarb windows with sliders are in. Progress is slow but at least its moving along now. RS1800 inlet fanimold has been delivered to Nomad for powder-coating in satin black. Im trying to do a couple of evenings a week just to keep it moving along, dont seem to get the time at the weekends!

Get that bloody stuff off the roof!!!!!!!! :x Glad you've put these pics up now, it's certainly ever CLOSERER to completion than it was......mate...wait for it...THIS TIME LAST YEAR. That's when I last saw it, and only now has it moved on. That is honestly almost unbelievable. It'll be good to get the car down here and finished when the time comes...shame the current management already maxes out the internals really, we could've really gone to town on it! Bit pointless for a strip car anyway really, though I can't fully appreciate the traction available to that car yet..

Things are starting to progress again. Ive given up on the fibreglass tailgate and bonnet for the moment. A std turbo bonnet and tailgate have gone into the painters and will hopefully be back at the weekend. Aeroquip and fuel line is ordered and should also be with me saturday. This week I have been working on under-bonnet wiring and have re-wrapped the engine, ecu and injector looms. They are all fitted now. Once i have the Bosch 044 fuel pump back from Chris at Carnoisseur along with a Facet red-top lift pump I can sort out the relays/wiring/switches for them.

I'm really starting to get excited about the car again, something I havent felt in a long time! Roll on FITP :)
