Quick nip back on the site after your text suggesting that the car might be nearing completion - I am very happy to see this progress :) I will do my very best to get to TOTB again, as I do every year - best competition event in the calendar I say! Good work dude :)

Bit more progress but gotta be quick as Im gong out in a few mins!

Crossover pipe is made along with mods to the intercooler outlet so it all lines up nicely! Bumper inserts are in and rear light swapped for a non-reverse light from a Euro set of Accessory Lights.

tbh i only asked for the end tanks to be painted but it got lost somewhere along the line!

All I'm waiting on now is my custom Roose hose and a T25 Escos turbo-to-air filter pipe. I also think I might change the join between the crossover and the i.c, currently its a short metal joiner with two silicon hose joiners but I dont think it allows it enough movement and am worried the outlet on the i.c will fracture. Im going to replace it with a six inch section of silicon hose that should allow much more engine movement.

I love it and cant wait to see it a day early! 8) 8) 8)

Re the 6 incher, that sounds good, you can also get those hoses with a metal ring round that allow movement? :-?

Will the T25 hose fit the T3? You still running a T3 I think? If so that may be of use to me as I'm missing that hose!

Im just gonna go for a std hose, the Roose hoses are actually pretty stiff anyway, Ive got them on my FRS and they are much thicker than Samco's.

I sent my old inlet hose off to Paul @ Roose and that's what he said it was so I should fit a T3, I bloody well hope so!

New hoses are on, so managed to drive up the road and back last night!

Only problem is I think ive got engine problems, im getting enormous amounts of smoke from the exhaust manifold, more than just oil burning off after a rebuild. I think there is possibly an oil leak, maybe even a head gasket gone thats pissing oil on the back of the exhaust manifold. Gonna take it all of tonight and see whats what. :(

No mate, its not the wrap, its the same wrap as was on there 3-4 years ago. There was some initial smoke when first started but that was just dirt n oil burning off from the build. This is clouds of the stuff. Ive spoken to brian and he's given me a few pointers so its having a stripdown tonight.

what a bummer....

why would it be smoking from the exhaust manifold?

have you had a look under neath at the turbo? mine leaked from there and that was burning off when hot, and looked like the manifold. or even the oil return leaking?

hope its something simple

ianFRST :why would it be smoking from the exhaust manifold?

cos all bar one of the lower studs holding the fanimold on are pi$$ing out oil

I took them all out, gave them a clean with brake cleaner and then cleaned up the studs. Then they went back in with a coating of a chemical metal-type stuff that sets in 10 minutes. Seems to have done the trick! :D

Glad you've had it running and rolling dude :)

It sounds like you have the problem that I had with my ZT with the ERST exhaust manifold. The holes that are drilled/tapped for the new stud locations are drilled into some fairly thin parts of aluminium in the end. The studs (with the weight of the manifold/turbo resting/jiggling about) work away at these thin sections of ally wall, leaving some very "open" threads - giving lots of free room for oil to work its way out and smoke. Mine started with whisps of smoke and a niff of oil, and before too long at all really....a trip down the road would see clouds of smoke pouring out of the vents. Head off...new head on...manifold fabricated to mate up to the standard Zetec exhaust ports and also to the T3 turbo.

I hope your chemical metal idea works out okay, just be wary of this. One or two of the studs only just about have two threads to hold onto. Not because they are too short, but because the ally is so damn thin in those parts of the head casting. 4mm if you're lucky I'd say.

It actually annoys me how flat and bogeyish it looks in pics....it's a long time since I saw it but I remember how cool it looked - nothing like the pics!
