Re: Helldesk hell
Another one from this week
lUser : Hi, I can't get logged onto the remote system
Matt : Okay, what does it say when you try to connect
lUser : It says the system isn't responding or something
Matt : Okay, can you run up the remote desktop client and tell me what it says on the screen
lUser : Sure.... it says the computer isn't responding
Matt : Err.. okay, did you click the connect button ? Never mind, could you just cancel, then go into the client and tell me what it says...
lUser : Yes no problem.... it says computer not responding still. Have you done anything ?
Matt : No. Can you go into the client and NOT click on the connect button please. Just tell me what it says....
lUser : Oh. Right. That's not what you said before
Matt : *grinds teeth*
lUser : Oh it says [computername]
Matt : That's incorrect, could you just amend that so there's an "ES" in front of the computer name in the box
lUser : How do I do that ?
Matt : *stunned silence*
Matt : Err, use the mouse to move the arrow into the box, just ahead of the "R" in the computer name, click with the mouse then type "ES"
lUser : Err. Okay. Err. How do I do that ?
Matt : You..err... you.... tell you what, I'll come down to that meeting and do it for you...
Upon his return, it turned out the person concerned had phoned up an hour ago and spoken to another tech asking why the computer wouldn't work... turns out the PC was fine, just needed turning on.

Re: Helldesk hell
I feel for you mate..
We use a helpdesk solution from Spiceworks.
I have mainly one user that will email us (me and my boss) stating he can not get on the helpdesk (is a website)
he then goes on to say his email is not working.
We both look at each other and say what a fudgekin idiot...
The worst is when they say there wireless is not working... Mainly cause they have turned it off....
IT illiterate!!!
