Hello there

Postby Brian on Mon Jun 30, 2003 9:13 am

I have just fitted 195/50 15's to my 1.1 mk3 and have cut the wheel arch liner slightly so that there is no scrubbing on full lock. There is also no scrubbing over bumps.

At the moment it is just standard 1.1 suspension, but i am going to fit a set of GMAX -35mm lowering springs.

The ride height will be lowered, but will the lowest point the dampers currently compress to remain the same??? - will the stiffer springs stop at the same place the standard ones did - due to hitting the bump stop? In other words will the tyres scrub? I am keeping standard dampers.

195/50/15`s! :o

the company that supplied them to you should of gave you 195/45/15`s,as you wouldn`t need to cut the arches back m8.

if you had 45`s on then you can lower it 60mm all round on gmax springs, where as now you have 50`s on there you will have to lower it 35mm all round.

I specified 50 series, as in my opinion i think they look better as they have a larger rolling radius - they are also cheaper :)

When i said i had to cut back the arches, it was nothing serious - literally a 1 inch triangular bit of the lower corner of the plastic liner, there was very little to trim as i have a low offset so they stick out more

I just wondered if anyone knew whether the lowest point the car compresses to remains the same if the dampers are the same?? Obviously there will be less travel of the suspension because of the shorter, stiffer springs.
