Right, I know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about ICE - But I'm sick of my standard stereo....and until I can afford my huge spanking shiny fibreglass install, I need something simple

Apparently I need.... stereo, sub, amp, wiring kit, 6x9, and component speakers, acoording to a mate lol

So any recommendations on stuff that's not too expensive but sounds decent too? Have been looking at Apline CD/MP3 players, kinda pricey but I'll probably have it for longer than everything else...

6*9's only if you cant afford a sub and amp

Whats your budget, are you bothered about boot space, what type of music do you listen to and do you want sound quality or dirty streetbass

I want auality and bass really....

doesn't bother me too much losing boot space, cos i wont have rear seats or bott space when i get my fibreglass install...

I listen to hip hop and dancey stuff mainly, with the odd bit of rock and metal

i just need an idea of what to actually buy so i can get saving, dont see the point in 6x9s really....

i don't even have a clue what brands are good and what are s**t

I used to just run 6x9s in ma parcell shelf on a good head unit with front component speakers and they were fine. There is no need to get a sub u may aswell jus get 6x9s till u can afford ur install cos they produce a nice bit of bass especially if u amp em up.

The best thing to do is if you are going to buy the lot all in one go then set yourself a budget to work with.

If you want i can see what deal i can do for you just tell me what money you have to work with and ill recommend some equipement, post it up on here then you can get everyones opinions before you buy?

Get the best CD tuner you can get your hands on with maybe a changer if you fancy one. Get a secent component set for th efront and then a nice 4 channel amp and a sub for the boot. Job jobbed. Don't fanny about with 6x9's they are s**t and will only give volume not SQ.

If your after a fibreglass install then give me a shout when your ready as we specialise in fibreglass work.

As for equipement you can buy the gear, use it till your ready to get an install done, door builds etc then just put the same stuff back in and make it look pretty

6x9's are an ok speaker when you buy the right ones and not sony xplod pieces of tug. For example infinity Kappa 6x9's with the seperate crossover amped sound awesome BUT the sound is muffled by the fact that they are normally mounted in parcel shelfs which fire the sound at the back window which is never good.

something like this then?

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product ... ts_id=4679

or is that too much for your price range? it's worth getting a good headunit to start out with, but if you want something that does the job and plays mp3's then a make like pioneer will be cheap and solid and mp3 cd players can be picked up from £60+ i think.

Personally i'm going for this one in a few months when i have the spare cash.

Spoke to my mate who owns an audio/security company and he said west coast customs do 2 12" subs and an amp for like £200... so that seems like my cheapest option for now? seeing as it wont be in the car forevere....

bassboy...you know a lot more about this stuff than me, find me some cheap decent stuff

West Coast Custom stuff as a rule is fairly decent but £200 sounds extremely cheap.

Jay246 :alpine has an awesome ipod interface!

Agreed. Halfords were doing a pretty good deal on them when i was working there. But that was ages ago

Alpine are by far the best head units ive heard in terms of sound quality IMO. Can be quite pricey though

do what i did, get 2x 12inch RE SE12 subs and put them into a 4.8 cubic foot box with a 21inch long port that has tuning frequency of around 34hz and run them off the re35.1d amplifier. its very nice sounding setup.

i shoudl really take some pics of my sounds, come to think of it its been over 8 months now since i last looked inside the boot :o

also i got lots of old audio stuff lying around gathering dust stuff like amps subs etc, but building works on the house have scattered everything

Got to be joking haven't you Becker make some of the nicest sounding units available :oooh: They're far from flash but all the reviews I've seen on their kit rates them as amongst the best you can get.

Admittidly it's been a few years since I was into my ICE but things can't have changed that much have they? :-?

Oranoco when someone says they are working on a budget, Becker units are definatly not the ones to be looking at as they are mega bucks.

For a good allround brand which isn't gonna break the bank too much it has to be pioneer or alpine.

Couldn't agree more. I read your post as though you were saying Becker weren't that good based upon the post you quoted from.
