Help installing/securing head unit into MK4
Hi, i've had a Fiesta MK4 for a few months now and thought it about time i change the lovely factory fitted 6000RDS. Managed to get it out without a problem, i've bought myself a Pioneer DEH-P6800MP Car MP3 CD Tuner, i got the connector lead adatpor and also got the Autoleads facia adaptor to cover up the whole.
I did trawl though the forum looking for a similar post but none really gave any answers other than using the facia adaptor but thats part of the problem.
Now the problem is the facia adapter comes with a little triangle that fits to the back of the head unit to attatch it to the runner which would work fine but you cant use that and the cage for the head unit at the same time as the HU wont fit though the cage with it on and it then wont attach to the runner.
So using the cage without using the runner, the hole is so big the only places the small metal tabs that you push out of the cage only attatch to the sides of the hole, which means there isnt alot holding the cage or head unit top or bottom. I think the facia adapter is ment to support it in place but that doesnt really fit too securely.
Am i the only person thats found that the Autoleads facia adaptor doesnt really clip in that securely?? It just about seems to hook with the bottom side clips but the top doesnt clip in at all so its not really a tight secure fit. Might look at some of the other facia adatpers, see if i cant bodge my own that holds it better, seems such a waste just to cover up that hole, could use it as a tray to put stuff in.
I'm thinking for making some sort of bracket out of aluminium fo hold the bottom of the cage so it doesnt rattle about or shack the HU to death.
Last thing, anyone know of any interior mods available for the MK4 centre column?? Where the original 6000RDS radio was, it fitted nice and flush and looked ok, but that facia plate doesnt match the blackish colour of the bottom control panel. Wondered if anyone as found away to make the HU look less out of place.
Enough ranting, thanks in advance for any advice given.
Will try and post some images of the internal space and the problem later.

i have a mrk5 as far as i know the dash is the same what u need to do is keep the facia 'n' chuck the rest in the bin!
The space left from the factory fitted stereo, if you look there is a metal surround in the dash this acts as your ancor when fitting the new head units cage(Thats what i call it-dont know the"technical"phrase)
1st Prime 'n' paint your facia problem 1 solved
2nd fit the facia after its dry
3rd take the cage from your new head unit, slot in and bend back the lugs on both sides left/right- top/bottombecause this is the main anchor for your stereo so it dos'nt move of squeek
plug in the connections slide in
Job Done!

Hi mate, i fit atleast 3 of these a month, i found the best way to fit these is install the cage in2 the facia adapter 1st,
then put your head unit in the cage, next fit the little triangle on the back of your headunit then place the facia adapter with headunt in2 the dash making sure u get it on the runner.
job done

you must put the triangle on after. the reason it is there is to ease some of the weight off the fascia as i didnt use it first time round and it eventually gave way. it is also a security thing, with that triangle on it, 2cers will not be able to yank the head unit in a hurry as the triangle will be obstructed by the cage, thus making it difficult to take out.
only problem is bit of a pain taking it out for whatever reason, i just pull the head unit as far as it will go and carefully prise the fascia off so i dont break the clips. bit of a pain but small price to pay for security
