Help please fan not working.

Postby Farooq on Sat Mar 30, 2013 10:41 pm

Hi there i have a fiesta xr2i 1990 1.6cvh and the fan wont work. The temperature needle reaches just touching red but fan doesnt kick in. The fan itself is fine as i bridged the fan switch and the fan kicks in. It wasnt working before i got the car and i replaced the fan switch sensor and still no luck, this is the sensor i got.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/380471018392? ... 1497.l2649

it is a white colour switch and the one i took off is blue should that make a difference?

Any ideas what else i can try. Just a separate issue but the nothing of the boot stuff will work i.e wipers boot release although there is power going to switch.

Look at your ignition relay and see if it has melted the fuse box contacts

No1 suspect for your fault

No it can just stop the fan working, boot pop etc, fuel pump etc... Depends what pin has lost contact on the relay !!!

It's the green relay behind the fuse box!!!

Also check out the sticky in the technical/fault forum there is more information there if you need to find location of it :)

This has happened on a few of my old frst's and I think it has started on my newest one lol

Right took of relay and two of contact pins were a light brown colour. Cleaned up contact and plugged in and fan stil not kicking in. The actual contacts on the board and plastic are fine.

When i press the boot release the relay buzzes. f**cked relay? If it is, is the green relay from any fiesta mk3 be suitable or do it need to be a xr2i one?

Also the fan temperture sensor switch was replaced but it turns out the sensor is from a air con car could that be an issue too?
