help smokey jo, need diagnosis please

Postby xjtaggedx on Mon Mar 31, 2014 9:30 pm

check out my car. this was taken today and has been like this for a week or so.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=ZIzwtaTDvMI

i can tell you that it is leaking oil from the rocker cover as far as i can make out.

i need to know what this is, guess that is it burning oil as it sticks of oil when smoking.

only smokes when the car has been sitting for a few hours and as you can see smokes once warm and goes away after 3-4 mins.

please help.

Stem seals any motor factors will sell them and they cost around £7 but you will need the tool that lets you remove them without removing the head. It will take about an hour of your time. If its the turbo seals then you are looking at a turbo rebuild. It will depend on what turbo you got if its a t3 then around £250 for a rebuild but if a t2 your looking at £350. The t2 is notorious for wearing the shaft and once been rebuilt once you will need a new shaft because an oversize seal cant be fitted. If you have a t2 I would suggest doing a t3 conversion not only will it be cheaper but you will gain some power also :D :D :D :D

I have the standard t2. Not looking to go t3 as I would have to upgrade other parts right? I may go turbo technics and get them to do a hybrid for me?! For about £400-500. And the need a new shift. Don't know what that is. Thank you so much so far you have help lots. I guess I do the stem seals first.

Smoke on the overrun like that is classic turbo seals, not saying it can't be stem seals.

Worn stem seals let oil seep into the combustion chamber overnight, so if it is those then the car will usually smoke when started from cold.

Are all your breather clean and blockage free other than that I am afraid its leaning towards your turbo

i mean could the breather be a cause for oil leaking in somehow, i am sorry but my knowledge of cars is limited. I just know that it is becoming worse and worse. if it is the turbo any idea how and where i could pick up a new 1? or does this option not exist? other than that money is also limited what would be the best option for me. thank you for all your help.
