Help with fitting Grp-N'cossie fuel pump
19 posts • Page 1 of 1
I'm fitting a Grp-N'cossie fuel pump into my Mk4 EFi Escort Zetec Turbo(same setup as FRST), but ain't sure about how to go about it.
The standard pump had a gauze touching the bottom of the tank to suck up the fuel, but the cossie pump doesn't. So far i've laid it on its side with a long pipe connecting to the fuel line.
Question is, will it suck up the fuel ok even though at times it will only be half submerged???

When you say you used the gauze that came with it, do you mean the flat one that lives at one end of the tube so to speak?
I take it you laid yours flat aswell?

Might be worth trying to fit the gauze but bear in mind the pump might not have any gauze fitted in case it tries to eat the stuff.
Otherwise just clean the fuel tank right out and keep your filter in good nick
Mmmmmmmm turboooo

yeah the old pump coes out of the cradle, but the cossie is too large to go back in, so i have laid it on the bottom of the tank with a pipe going to the fuel line.

isn't that what the swirl pot's for though???
The pipe I fitted is wrapped around the swirl to secure the new pump and the pump has a large pipe round its diameter to reduce vibrations against the pump & the tank. I had to do this cos the pump is taller than the tank itself and cannot sit upright.

Do you have any idea what 178.8mph feels like in a Fiesta? 2000 lb of pressure per square inch per second pushing back on your face. It feels like god himself is trying to rip the skin off your skull while someone lands a 747 on your chest.

Muffy,
I've always had uprated escort cosworth pumps - my old pump was good for my old engine which was a 2.0 ZVH).
It's now being replaced with a more powerful grpA Escort Cosworth pump.
Sunny.
ps- I'd be very surprised if my car detted after being dyno'ed and setup by Harvey and Ahmed.

muffking - ive got large injectors and running low fuel pressure.
im pretty certian the escort cosworth EECIV fuel pump is identical to the rest of the ford range, as fuelling for the standard car was right on the limit?

Excursion: Since I laid the pump in the swirl it is able to pick up fuel even when the tank is low. The true test will be when cornering hard, but the pump can still pressurise the fuel system so when the pump is starved of fuel for a sort period of time it shouldn't make to much difference to the fuel pressure.
