help with my "ice" ?

Postby getsmefroma2b on Fri Aug 04, 2006 12:58 am

hello

just want a bit of advice really,

i currently have 2 alpine speakers being these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Alpine-5-25-Speak ... dZViewItem in my door.

and running two kenwood 6x9 speakers in the parcel shelf being these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Kenwood-6907-seri ... dZViewItem

and a 10"sony xplode sub being powered by a pants splx amp.

all speakers minus sub are running of a old ministry of sound head unit.

now this is all ok considering i bought the hole thing for £50. and its generally ok minus the pants amp. (which i plan to upgrade anyway) however im thinking of ditching the 6x9

but not really sure what would be best to change to.

any advice? also would it be worth amping the door speakers, im not really sure if they could take anymore power then they already are given.

this is all in a ford fiesta mk3 by the way

cheers for any help

lol was gonna say you could have started there

Are the 6x9s on a normal parcel shelf or mdf shelf?

If you wanted to ditch them you could get a decent set of components either 13 or 17cm to go there and amp them for a nice clear sound.

13s would fit in the standard speaker mounts with adapters, 17s would probably have to go in the parcel shelf.

hmmm, im guessing when you say 13's that you mean they will be placed in the back. in the plastic bits ether side of the parcel?

sorry not good at explaining things, but if so i may as well stick with speakers in the parcels. im not really to fussed with keeping 6x9s or not its just the location i dont like of them.

however i feel i should change them any way, i just feel they are trying to do to many jobs at the same time. eg tweeter midrange and bass cone all trying to be produced at once. but im no expert!

the shelf is just a standard shelf.

if you used a mdf shelf you'd notice the mid-range parts sound much better.

the 13s would go on the parcel shelf supports at the sides yes. a decent set of those are better than a cheap pair of 6x9s. amped up components would give you a nice clear sound, then your sub would do the thumping :D

I myself have Alpine 13cms in the front doors (different to yours) with tweeters higher up, then Infiniti Kappa 6x9s on a mdf stealth shelf. I don't listen to stuff really loud so they thump enough for me on that.

Running off a JVC 4 x 50W head unit, no amps :)

You can make one yes, or put a wanted ad up in the Wanted section for an MDF Stealth Shelf, this way your speakers are hidden from unwanted eyes too ;)

Usually some floating around on eBay too.

Nowt wrong with beetles, I was at the Bug Jam a couple of weeks ago, surrounded by them

could i make some 6x9 boxes say, then have them fixed to the top of the parcel shelf?

this way i could point them towards the front and get less distotion from the sub, only problem then is that its so much more on show :bonkers:
