why the hell is Henry VIII named so when he ONLY HAD 6 WIVES!!! Can someone not count!!!! DUH maybe they didnt understand roman numerals?

he married 2 men beforehand and divorced them. he did this for the money then became king with his wealth. the 2 men he married were both very rich milkmen. no one knows about this except my grandad who told me in confidence. please dont tell anyone though

nah it's true.

Henry VIII did only have 6 wives. However, the names Henry VI and Henry VII had already been taken, and he didn't want to look like some low life scum who could only get 5 (or less) wives. So he was left with two options - change his name or pick a different number. As he was quite fond of being called "henry" or "our 'en" up north he chose the number 8.
