How can i test my idle control valve
5 posts • Page 1 of 1
My car has been lightly jerking for a while on de-celeration & slow pick up, has been really annoying me & now that I have removed the chip for a while its does it more often & slightly more voilently.
Also this morning the car was idling @ 2000rpm, think its the cold start valve but it never went that high B4, If I put the chip on it, it idles @ 1500(normal cold idle, I think) anyone have any ideas this is only in the morning mind!
Im going to get a new actuator & R.Rd setup, but want to sort this problem out first, car hasnt been tuned for 8 months, could it be this??
Help Please!!!

Mine used to do this, and still does to some extent.
First off, with the chip out, and the engine cold, disconnect the idle speed valve - the revs should drop to around 800rpm and the car may well stall. If it doesn't, it's not the idle speed valve!
Secondly, check the plug gaps. The wider the gap the weaker the spark, which was one of the problems on my FRST and caused the car to be hesitant.
Third, it may be a faultly EDIS module - swap it with a friend's to check!

I tried the idle plug, as soon as i disconnected it, the car died immediatley! Tried it a few times & got the same response each time. Does this mean the idle valve is Fecked?
I will check the plug gaps this weekend, should they B 6mm?
Dont mean 2 B thick but what is the EDIS module? never ever come accross this 1 yet?
Thanks 4 the help M8!

If the engine cuts out when u disconnect it, the base idle is incorrect and your throttle body will probably need cleaning. The car should idle at 675 rpm with the valve disconnected..
0.7mm plug gaps..
0.7mm plug gaps..
