how easy is engine swap
i got 1.1 cfi hcs engine
if i got a say full 1.6 si spares repairs, would everything unplug, then plug into mine, from the engine bay.
or would i need to swap the whole car wiring loom?

Re: how easy is engine swap
It shouldn't be too hard at all if your handy with the spammers and methodical
Just stop your car to a bare shell and strip everything from doner car to swap over
Start with fitting the si loom complete taking note of earth points and which way the loom sits in car
Take plenty of reference pics to help , then do the engine and box and all engine bay related stuff then the rest should be like one big meccano jigsaw lol
Should take cpl of weeks taking your time

Not to hard, yeah dash out, don't forget you will need to change the tank, and back axel if you want the anti roll bar, and your going to need the front left hand mount, I cut the leg apart on the si to remove the plate as the nuts aren't on the 1.1 to fix. It to, then cut part of the front panel to install, bolted it up then welded in place through the cut out, the weld up the cutout with the piece you've taken out.

Re: how easy is engine swap
Surely with his car already being an injection his fuel tank and interior loom are fine? I didn't change any of that shizzle to go to a RST engine! Engine loom should plug straight into your interior loom son, depending on if both cars are a mk3 or 3.5 as either have a different main plug but that's only a case off moving the pins from one plug to the other there is a guide/info on here somewhere for that, fuel tank and pump will be fine as your car is already injection.. Just swap over everything under the bonnet and youl b ok

Re: how easy is engine swap
The 1.6 loom has more stuff like PATS on the multiplug. Also water temp and oil pressure feeds have moved and go through separate plugs. It's possible to customise a 1.6 engine loom (I did it with mine) but it isn't straight forward.

Re: how easy is engine swap
I would just swap the lot over otherwise as said you'll have all sorts of pats problems ,and if the doner is fine and works a1 then its much better to use it all IMHO
Don't forget the running gear also should be a doodle mate if you take your time ,you should try and build a evo 8 from a bare shell
Could barely pick the loom up on that without help lol

What year is the 1.1? I'm sure if it's a cfi that you just need to plug in the engine loom for the zetec

It's not quite that simple, but the more I think about it the easier I remember it being. You need to rewire the multiplug slightly and route the oil pressure and engine temp through it. Its simple wiring but you would have to find where they go at the moment. I know at least one of them goes through a plug at the grommet on the drivers side near the bonnet hinge.

Cvh on carbs is likely to be more of a headache with fuel lines etc, but can't comment on that.

im using manual fuel pump twin choke carb (not twin carbs) and take my sender out of tank take pump out altogether, then on sender end swap out/return pipes over as on mine return pipe goes to bottom of tank to prevent noise upon fuel returning, so thats the fuel sorted, wiring is add a ignition live for coil and dizzy and fuel solinoid on side of carb, other two wires of dizzy go to coil and earth, use my original starter and alternator and oil and temp wires.
job done
i hope

pretty easy to fit a zetec engine in a 1.1 i had to move the temp gauge sender wire into the main plug and the oil pressure light wire into the plug, all other wires are in the same place... one other thing to do is extend the rad fan switch wires by about 35cms also lucky for your age car you already have the rear engine mount hole so will go straight in
as for a CVH engine though, the plug is bigger, 16 wires on 1.1/zetec and CVH has 8 or 12 on the main plug
