How hard is it to get insurance on a fiesta Rs turbo !!!

Postby knuckles on Sun Mar 25, 2007 11:12 pm

Bit of a rant about car insurance !

I have been online for 3 hours trying to get a good quote on my Rs turbo and i have nothing but grief...

Ive tried confused.com , this is money.com , elephant, swift, Quinn, AA, admiral etc

I'm 23 in 2 months , have 2 years ncb , no claims , no convictions, live in London. The car has cat 1 alarm, immobiliser and a tracker and they still wont insure me ... :x

I have had no problems insuring a xr2i with modifications but as soon as i mention bigger brakes, and bigger alloy wheels on the Rs they don't want to insure me.

My cheapest quote so far is £1650 :o

Does anybody else have or had the same problem when changing cars ??

can't see any of them being any good for a modded car

try boncaster (ask for their specialist car division)

greenlight (tell them you're with passionford)

boncaster have been excellent with me, i'm one of those nightmare customers who leave things until the last minute, and they never let me down.

Those web pages are crap for modded cars, because as soon as you type in that it is modified the computer response isnt able to cope with variations :P

Neither did I, but they quoted me for my engine conversion. The only reason I didn't go with them was because the engine-change meant the need for a Cat 1 alarm otherwise they wouldn't insure me for theft.

the slight amenities that come with Fully comp is probably not worth it as its not a car that gets used all the time

tpft only pays out for the 3rd party in the claim - therefore your car doesnt get fixed

Get onto HIC, what they gave me in the deal was more than any other company - the company i'm with is HERTS - and i'm 27 with 4 year NC - agreed value when the cars finsihed of around £3800 - upto an extra £1500 engine mods covered - rs owners club track day cover all for £271 f/c i think quite a few of the regulars on here insure with these.

Dont mean to be harsh but shouldnt you have checked this out before even buying the car? :-?

Im with HIC too - all mods declared and its actually cheaper than when i was with elephant without the engine change!

You could even get a quote online with them.

Actually last October before i purchased the Rs shell from ade i had a few quotes on gav's rs turbo when he was selling it at the time and i was again quoted near £2000 for a fiesta Rs turbo.

But i still didn't get turned down back then for car insurance before simply because it has more than one modification.

Also i need to change insurers as quinn don't insure cars that have had mods that increase road performance or speed. Its in there terms and conditions. :(

HIC sorted me out on both my RST's. Enquire about classic policies if it's not your main car as this saves a packet.

Definately go fully comp, if you need to claim you will be kicking yourself over the small saving you made going TPFT

Avoid companies like Elephant, AA etc as their cover isn't worth squat. They will hike your premium for your mods but in the event of a claim you will only get standard parts back.

Im paying about £750 tpft. Im 32 with no no claims and thats with my 24 year old girlfriend on the policy. Im with sabre, they were a bit fussy about the mods but i got there in the end with them. Got the quote online through confused.com so cant understand why your comming up with quotes that high.

Did you ask about classic policies. My FRST costs me just £500 to insure fully comp with all mods declared. Escort is with them as well and that's only £530. Both with agreed value

I'm 23 with 2 years ncb , no convictions, no accidents. Live in london and have to park it in the street.

fiesta rs turbo - with cat 1 alarm and tracker
Modifications - cosworth calipers, induction kit, strut brace, alloy wheels, magnex exhaust.

They still want over £1000 - even if i join rs owners club and attend car shows etc.

I thought fitting insurance approved alarms and tracking systems is meant to bring down the quote not make it rocket

You say HIC is a load of tosh, but isn't that cheaper than the cheapest quote you posted in your first post? And also far cheaper than the £2000 odd you were quoted in October? (Sorry if I've missed a cheaper quote).

Admittedly I think it's a rediculous amount to pay, but you can't really knock them if they're proving to be one of the best so far :)

A London postcode and on street parking mate I doubt you will get a nice quote on anything vaguely interesting. In fact I would go as far as to say a grand sounds damned good.

You make it sound like i live in brixton :(

Im looking into renting a small garage, but 1st things 1st i need to get it running properly.

the cheapest quote i have had was with some random company on confused.com - £845 tpft but that wasnt including mods or legal cover.

So im looking at £125 a month to insure the Rs

Not getting at anything remotely as dramatic mate. London postcodes attract a higher premium as does on street parking. In the insurers eyes this makes things a far higher risk than living out in the stick with the car in a locked garage.
