How many bottles of brake fluid?

Postby MikeyXR2i on Wed Feb 12, 2003 9:38 pm

Hi peeps, im gonna be draining my braking system soon, putting braded hoses on and refilling with Dot 5 fluid. Will i need more than one bottle to fill the system back up?

Thanks peeps

Regards Mike.

Dot 5 or Dot 5.1? Dot 5 is that Silicon based fluid that doesn't absorb water (so it lasts much longer than the usual stuff) but its not supposed to have such good pressure related characteristics (its significantly more compressible so the pedal feel gets a bit spongier). Since you are doing it, I think this is relevant... personally I'd go for a good 5.1.

I think 1 litre should be enough. Some fluids come in 500ml bottles so if thats the case you will need 2.

yeah it's DOT 5.1 you want, 1 litre should be enough, I've heard DOT 5.1 is now called "Super DOT 4" though, can anyone confirm that?
