this is a serious question

whats the difference between a normal drinker a heavy drinker and a alcoholic

is there a difference between a heavy drinker and a alcoholic

how much do you drink and what is your tipple

ill start, when drinking i drink every evening between 6 - 12 cans of normal strength fosters lager
but the last 2 years ive had periods of not drinking at all (periods of 2 months or 1 month at a time with no alcohol at all)

but after 2 months im gagging for a beer

6-12 every night is alcoholic.

Anything above the units recommendation is classed as a heavy drinker.

i would put you in heavy drinker for that amount every night.

the fact you can go a month or so without any, means you aint a alcoholic, if you were a alcoholic you would want a drink all the time, day and night, prob get the shakes and all sorts too.

Alcoholics can stop for long periods of time. It's not the amount they drink but rather their disposition to succumb to the large amounts of a specific period. The shakes is a sign of alcohol physical dependency which is an associated later stage of the psychological alcoholic dependency. The way the mind works in an alcoholic is one that has already been set in stone long before the psychological and physical stages, however power of the mind (etc etc) can stop the alcohol intake and thus be teetotal.
