How Much Electric Do I Need

Postby grandman on Wed Nov 21, 2007 10:11 pm

Hello,

My Wife's little car is: Fiesta MK3, 1300cc, HCS, CFI, Manufactured Nov 93, Reg Jan 94, 3 Door Hatch.

I'm adding the loom and fuse box from a RST 1800. Then Electric: Windows, Heated Window Screen, Central Locking, alarm, Twin Head Lamps, XR2i Fogs and driving lights, interior lighting from higher specification car.

Question-1, Will I (can I) Fit a higher rated Alternator/Battery? To deal with all the extra power consumption when driving at night or in inclement weather condition.

Question-2, Altering suspension, adding rear beam off a RST 1800, and 15" Alloys with 195x45x15 tyres, will I need to have the:

a) Clocks: speedometer and Rev-counter re-calibrated,

b) Camber angles altered?

Any other checks or alterations required ?

alternator you could fit a td alternator to get more spark but you dont need to

15" wheels wont need the speedo reclaibrating as the rolling radius is the same

if you fit a rear beam you could do with getting the tracking checked at the local garage but dont have to

Hello,

When you say a TD, is that a turbo diesel? If so is that the 50amp or 75amp, with bolt on connections? Do I also need to alter anything else. like plugs or anything if the spark is going to increase. What is a 480 battery is that the charge rate or something else?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Don't bother changing the alternator until it buggered as it will be able to cope. Uprate the battery if you like but personally I'd wait until the one have is buggered, I think the usual one to go for is the Transit diesel battery.
Those that can, do; and those that can't, talk about it.
