how to quieten noisy tappets?!

i have a very noisy 1.3 hcs engine, and i was told its my tappets, and that they can be replaced to be quieter. Does [ERRR] 1 kno if i can do this myself (i can do fairly tricky things myself :rolleyes: ) and how much the parts are, or how much a garage would charge to do it for me?

any advice at all is much appreciated.

New tappets will be quieter. Get them done asap man. :)

As far as fitting, i wouldn't. :D

the rocker arm to valve stem contact face wears radpidly on these engines.

Ford do a special set of feeler gauges with a curved recess to get around this. If you don't have this tool grind the rocker arms flat and refit - the 1300's never fully quieten down as they suffer from cam wear problems.
