hyrallic to solid lifters

Postby Dwayneology on Thu Dec 27, 2007 5:35 pm

I've got a s1 2.0l 16v zeta engine that i am in the middle of rebuilding

after reading performance ford this month it says that solid lifters can handle more bhp than the hydraillic lifters
in the zeta engines

ive been given a s3 zetec head before i buy this head: -

1.is performance ford mag right about hndling more power
2.Would i be able to do a straight swop from hydrallic to solid
3.will the head from the s3 zetec fit on the block from the s1 zeta

Cheers

The S1/2 Zetec's have bigger main bearing caps so there a little more stronger than the S3

Performance ford didn't tell you everything about this mod

All black top zetecs run solid lifter, you would really see any gains in fitting these unless you go for really wild cams then you need to fit solid lifters but of the over size type as the wild cams need more area of the tappet face to stay in contact with so you have to machine the head to fit 32mm tappets

If you do this you can fit Vauxhaul EX Red top tappets, there hydraulic but can handle more power than the Zetec ones, there of for 220bhp then you will need solid ones

The head from the S3 will fit the S1 block but a modified water pump housing is needed as well as a electrical water pump as the S3 timing belt will foul the S1 water pump
