Re: [NEWS] I haven't forgotten about you guys!
Personally I think a name change is exactly what the site needs, to reflect that many of the core members don't drive Fiesta's, to attract newer models of Fiesta's, and to attract a "wider" class of user. By that I mean that at present we only seem to attract (no offence to anyone) the younger, just passed their test user. We want to get back to the days when there were lots of high-profile cars being built.
As for going mobile, my HTC works with FT perfectly.
Keep us informed Ade and if any of us can be of any help then let us know.
Happy New Year FT, or whatever it may become

Re: [NEWS] I haven't forgotten about you guys!
it was luck clark, i couldnt belive it was still there
the name change should reflect fords though, after all this forum did start life as a fiesta forum and should stay with fords, if not fiestas really.
i know a lot of users dont have fords anymore, but there are other forums that cater for other makes and models, i dont think changing this forum to suit different makes and models is really the right thing to do, other wise you might as well call it ww w.notafiestaturbo-buteverythingelse.com
jokes aside though, most users, core or not, that have moved on to different makes and/or models, have moved away from this site, yes some do still use this site a little, some a lot, others not at all, so again, i dont belive changing the forum to cater for any make or model is the right thing to do, if anything i belive it will do more harm that good as your be flooded with all sorts, prob more ch@v civic drivers and saxo lovers etc (no offence unless you are a ch@v )
a lot of users on this site dont own a FRST, and some have never even owned a FRST (even "core users") but it didn't/doesn't stop them using the forum which is good.
had we all had a "passionford" type approach from the start, if you didn't own a real FRST you wouldnt of been welcome but no matter what the car people have still posted and used the site and in most cases been made welcome, and different makes/models will still keep coming up on the forum, name change or not

well said.
i dont think a name change is needed. The name of the website doesn't really matter many people have joined because they like the friendliness of the site. There are many people that have joined that dont have a turbo fiesta and the name has not stopped them up to now as they know their welcome, so why change now?anyway fiesta turbo applies to any fiesta just a turbo one even a turbo diesel .
or
change it to

chavsrus.com commonly know as "max power"
it is difficult, and ade, you got a mission on your hands here fella...., (you know this but...) you got a established site with a known name and trying to bring it upto date to include more, but without getting away from what the site is about is going to be tough, and its not going to please everyone im sure, but you have to do what you feel is right for the site and try to accommodate for everyone.

On the name change subject. re-attracting people from decent show stands this year could help bring more people on. Also, I don't think anyone really fancies paying out for new banners, t-shirts and keyrings!
I think we just need to see how it goes first

Re: [NEWS] I haven't forgotten about you guys!
to be fair, on the main page that loads when you type/click on fiestaturbo.com
it clearly advertises the sites coverage and knowlege on the RS turbo, RS1800, XR2i 8v and 16v and the Si 16v
even in spite fo this theres dozens of mere 1.1, 1.3, 1.4 and 1.6 lx, ghia, sapphire etc, so plenty get on indoubt of this

Re: [NEWS] I haven't forgotten about you guys!
Wish I'd spotted this earlier tbh.
I feel Adrian and Paul are right, a change of name may well be necessary to get FT out of the rut it's in at the moment. A lot of (younger) people have no idea about the RS fiestas, in fact many think that "RS" started with the escos. If the site is to attract a wider fanbase (and thus greater support) the focus of the site has to be wider, this will mean a name change (or additional, alternative branding).
Regarding the purchase of merchandise, sorry, but tshirts wear out, keyrings fall apart etc. There is always a market for merchandise and it shouldn't be ignored. As Adrian says, only half the operating cost of the board is covered by existing marketing methods and subs, he's having to support the site out of his own pocket.
Lastly, I posted in "the site" regarding "mobilising" the forums a few days ago, Ade, if that's a point of interest would you please check out the thread.

Re: [NEWS] I haven't forgotten about you guys!
i think andy is refuring to the FRST.
if you say rs turbo to anyone, some wont know what it is, those that have heard of it will say, "oh yeah the escort rs turbo, or oh the RS cosworth" as thats what most relate to, some people young or old dont know ford done a FRST, they thought they were all xr2i's
years ago when i had a burn up with someone, when we stopped he said, "fcuking hell thats one fast xr2i" when i told him its was a FRST he assumed i had put the engine in from a escort, and he was a so called "i know it all boy racer" when in fact he didnt know jack $hit and still wouldnt belive me when i told him it was made by ford, i gave up in the end, but that was years ago, this is now so some of the new up coming car enthusiasts still wont know what it is, yet there know what a ERST is.
still, that said, i still dont think the forum name should come away from what it is, but should be added too or something, fiestaturbo.com has been heard of and is known by a lot of people and forums.
as for keyrings and T shirt, yeah they wear out and break, but there are still a load of keyrings to sell, and the club banners etc are all done, to change the name now would mean new banners etc

Maybe a tagline or something? But this is Fiestaturbo.com, its become more than just a fiestaturbo site, but I dont think its become something else altogether.

I dont think the name should be changed. Its a well established forum now. Perhaps changing the main page to cover more than just the mk3 fiestas, possibly have the website distinguishing between what mk fiesta you have like zsoc do, works well on there

Re: [NEWS] I haven't forgotten about you guys!
gone through a simular problem with a local club i'm a rep on,
i think its just one of those things, lots of forums are generally getting quieter,
because anyone can set one up these days, lots of cruise websites about and chive crap sites
if you want more members with newer cars to join, expect alot more idiots and jonyb4's!
theres already lots of websites to choose from for the other model fords
passionford has a FRST section, but its sod all compared to this place
so dont loose your existing members by making the forum more towards other fords aswell
so far the following forums/clubs have a section for the mk3 fiesta
UKFN
Passionford
Fiesta owners club
fiesta club gb
rsownersclub
talk ford
ford forum.net
xroc
ford rs forum
these two forums have been started by people that used to be regulars on here
fiesta guides
Fiesta-Si.com
the FRST is getting older and so is the target audience for the forum,
maybe keep the title FIESTATURBO.COM because its a well known name
but make it a little more inviting for all mk3 fiesta's on the front page
maybe a system where you get a little more for your membership??
i think theres more to be done before changing it to a wider range of cars

Re: [NEWS] I haven't forgotten about you guys!
Jony, I said "RS fiestas", meaning the FRST and the RS1800. I stand by my comments, even many die-hard Ford nuts don't consider the FRST a "proper" RS. Just because you know of the model and what it is doesn't mean anyone else in the sub-22 age group is going to. Hell, I posted elsewhere recently about a kid (read : 20 yr old bodyshop worker) not knowing what a v6 was... that's what I'm talking about - a complete lack of knowledge and understanding.
I still think either a name change or rebranding is in order. How else are you going attract attention otuside the single-marque-single-model interest group ?
EDIT : Rob, yeah, you're right - there's a lot of forums for the fiesta these days, but they mostly seem to have their own USP's. FT does need a broader appeal and to reach past the single model image it has. Some of this is mindset of members too; I seem to remember a poll about which cars to have on stand and the concensus was it should be FRST's. But then, what's a FRST? Where do you draw the line? I'd sooner see some top-notch fords on the stand than a handful fo sheddy rotboxes that are there only because they're "real" frsts.... Yeah, that's going to an extreme but then, I did say where do you draw the line Also not a surprise re PF and the FRST forum being dead...

my main being look at the websites mentioned above, none of them are really all that
except for passionford because its mainly all cossie's
theres alot more cossie's that FRST's
so the other forums have tried being open for other models
has'nt got them far,
just revamp the club, dont change it completely!

bang on, considering theres about less than 1500 frst left in britain, this site is doing really well in compaision to passion ford which like rob said have a much bigger and wider fanbase since theres alot more cars in the cossie range
and since zetec turbos are on the rise and the mk3 being the only fiesta to come with a zetec (standard atleast) its doing great, plenty of zt builts currently going on on here

hb69 :I dont think the name should be changed. Its a well established forum now. Perhaps changing the main page to cover more than just the mk3 fiestas, possibly have the website distinguishing between what mk fiesta you have like zsoc do, works well on there
I couldn't agree more. I think the front page should be changed and updated., I don't feel there is a need for a name change.

Re: [NEWS] I haven't forgotten about you guys!
a name change is unnecessary imo, fiestaturbo doesn't explicitly mean the FRST or any other particular model...
as said before, an update to the main site to show it caters for all types of Fiesta is all it needs really.
andymac - the keyrings don't fall apart thank you very much!

You get my point though, nothing lasts forever, especially if it's made by Ford
