I know its been asked b4 but i need some help!

Postby Scooby_SI on Mon Dec 30, 2002 1:24 am

I've tried looking through old posts and used the search but i cant find anything on this particular situation.

Right thing is i went to halfords (hehe  ) to order a 57i K&N kit for my 1.6 16v Zetec, the guy told me that there was 2 types, the panel filter and the cone filter type...

i asked him what the difference was and he said that if i had a cone standard airfilter in the car then i would need the cone type, same if i had the panel type i would need the panel filter.

I thought the new kits get rid of the normal filter and replace most the housing so would it make a difference which shape i got? also isnt all the 1600 SI Zetecs (95) all got panel shaped filters as standard? my m8 has, so i recon hes ordered the wrong one for me (panel) which was 80-90notes :-? alot cash for a crappy looking kit.

Anyway the question is does it matter which shape u get or is the panel one right for my car? if not i ll be taking it back as soon as i get it

Cheers

Inside the standard Si airbox is a panel filter. A K&N panel filter would replace this and be a lot more efficient than the standard one.

I bought an induction kit which replaces the standard airbox with a cone filter. This, in theory should let more air in and increase power output but most of all makes a nice roaring induction noise. The air should be less turbulent too.

Yea thanks for the reply i knew about the improves air flow and deep roar :D

Just thought the panel shape was the wrong kind i need, but i guess they both fit its just a matter of taste?

They had 2 kits under the SI :)

Basically, the panel filter just replaces the Si filter and the induction kit replaces the entire airbox, filter and inlet pipe -the whole lot! :)

Halfords sell these things?

Damn, that suprises me :)

Can you get induction kits for carb engines. i.e. the 1.6s CVH?

If so that sounds better than a straight filter.

Cheers
