ICE IS DONE - NEARLY :)

Postby dontpannic on Wed Mar 07, 2007 2:20 pm

Hi Guys,

Nearly finished my cheap-as-chips ice setup!

Got a 10" 400W sub in a homebuilt box, 2 Ripspeed 6x9's (I know - crap :D), 2 10cm rear speakers, and 2 13cm full range fronts in the doors.

Its running from a 500W 4ch Amp (sub and 6x9's)

Two phono's split into 4, sub bridged over channel 1 and 2, 6x9's on channel 3 and 4.

For a grand total of £116.98 its got suprisingly good sound quality and it's f*cking loud too - probably not on par with anyone elses though - but does me!

Now after the life story(!), is is possible to mount the 6x9's on the floor in the rear (raising the floor a little), then sticking a proective shield over them? Has anyone done this? Does it affect the MOT (rear legroom etc?)

Cheers,

Nick

Stick the sub in the boot and run it off 2 of the channels (bridged)
6x9 on the shelf and run them off the head unit
13cm in the doors and run these off the 2 remaining channels.

I run no rear speakers at all in my A4 or my Escort

Surely that defeats the object of having them? They are there as a provider of treble and mid-bass, by putting them on the floor they will sound muffled(especially with a shield over them) and be a redundant and needless waste of rear leg room IMHO

fair enough guys, I just didn't fancy having to make a stealth shelf... Looks like I'm going to have to though :)

Cheers,

I also think it's a bad idea. Do you really want the music to sound like it's coming from the floor? I don't think it's going to sound great with 2 sets of rear speakers either. What I'd recommend would be another amp for the sub (for which I happen to have and ideal one for sale), then using the one you have for front and rear speakers, or front speakers and 6x9s.

Just my 2c though.

As I say it sounds great at the moment - speakers just in cardboard boxes on the backseat until I get a stealth shelf or a sheet of MDF!

I'll take your advice on board - I've a mate with lots of Audio stuff at home, so I'll do some testing and let you all know what I've decided!

Cheers for your comments and suggestions!
