Ideas for my sound system.

Postby Zak on Mon Oct 29, 2007 1:09 pm

Ok so, so far my system consists of 2 QB69 speakers (200w RMS) and a SEVIC in dash lcd display dvd/cd player thingy LOL (never know what to call it! :-? )

My ideas are to amplify the QB69's with a JBL GTO 75.4 amp (jus plug each speaker into 2 channels) and build 2 enclosures for them and mount them on the ceiling directly behind driver and passenger seats. Then i was thinking 2 reverse mounted Kicker L7's powered by 2 JBL 1201.1 mono blocks in a nice big ported enclosure.

What u guys reckon, decent setup? need your opinions [ERRR] im ordering everything on thursday.

Get some components! These will work better when amped. If you're going for subs I'm also inclined to say get rid of the 6x9s. They're ok for adding some bass to systems without subs, but bugger all good for anything else.

Have u ever heard a pair of QB69's? [ERRR] they really do sound good plus they come with a crossover to send the right range of frequencies to each component.
I've noticed alot of people on here don't really like 6x9's, they sound horrid when u got them on your parcel shelf, but when they are positioned in the right place and have their own seperate enclosures they really do sound awesome, well mine do anyway.
But i was thinking of getting some door speakers too, what sound good and will be able to keep up with the QB69's 200W RMS?

Yep, I've heard them. They're sold in Halfords, so they have them on display. I've had my own 6x9s, which were in enclosures as I didn't want to cut the shelf on my Mk2, and as I said they worked well for providing me with a bit of extra bass. Just no need with a sub I found.

Really need a budget for the door speakers, though components are definitely the way to go. It's not what the speakers are rated to that decides the power, it's the amp, so this is the main factor on that front.

i'd say my budget for door speakers is about 100 quid only problem is the amp on my headunit is seriously crap so i would definately need a amp for the door speakers but that wud then mean me having 4 amplifiers what kind of solutions will i be looking at power wise?

What would you need 4 amps for? You'd only need a 4-channel amp to run all the speakers. If you mean to run 2 subs as well, you could have a separate 2-channel amp or go for a 6-channel amp for everything.

Have a look here for components: http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product_list/c_path/60_61_108/spd/13cm---5-25-components/pg/2.html

Just buy one proper amp for the subs and a good quality 2ch amp for the components then run th e6x9's (if you have to have them) off the headunit.

Drop Bass Boy a shout on here as he's more than clued up and offers good advice with knowledge about the kit.
