Identifying gearbox?
Scrapy offer me a gearbox on perfect price - just 20$. They told me it's a Mk5 Escort 1800cc 105HP. How can I identify box? They can cheat on me ... Also I want to identify my own gearbox cause i have some doubts, a friend have 1400 Fiesta with VERY long ratios, but mine - I'm like a Formula1 driver, damn ....
Sorry for my bad english...

In short... you cant
The only thing that identifies the box is the type, i.e. BC or IB5 and a number stamped on it. The number rarely matches Ford database however
Really the only way to know what you have is have someone open it up and look at the ratio's or see if it has an LSD fitted or get someone with the same car and gearbox test what speeds they get at what revs.

Unfortuantely there is no easy way to identify the gearbox When the gearbox is made at ford, there is a small identification tag put on. As time goes by the tags usually get broken off and lost.

get them to write you some kind of guarantee for the box, saying what it is. then if you fit it and by driving you can tell it aint what they say it is go to em and crack some skulls
i know it aint the perfect answer but i cant see any other options
