Improving accelaration on an Si
Hi everyone,
Does anyone know of a good way to improve acceleration and/or bhp in the 1.6 16v Si? I already have a K&N kit and a cat-back exhaust but it struggles even to keep up with modern multipoint injected cars (my friends 1.2 16v Clio for example). Should it really be performing that badly against a 1.2 litre car?!?
People have suggested quad spark plugs, FSE boost valves, even cheap superchargers.
I don't really have the budget for a 2.0 zetec engine transplant either!
Jamie

You can put an induction kit, decat, exshaust, 2,0ltr thottle bodie, superchip, boost valve and cams. you'll not get much back in the way of power, and after spending all the money on that lot you might aswell have saved up and got a 2,0ltr.
You can't beat a 1.2

Improving Accelaration on an Si
Yeah my mates 03' reg 1.2 Clio can get away from me, takes me about half a mile to catch it up!
I would be interested to know how much a 2.0 litre zetec conversion would cost, I had heard that you could buy the lump for £200-300 and do it yourself but how much are we talking for the extra bits (uprated gearbox, ECU etc. not to mention upgrading the brakes and suspension) and how much would a garage charge to do it?

The cheapest way to improve your accelaration is to strip to the car out. Other than that 2.0 is the best option .
you can do a 2.0 conversion very cheapily or very expenisvely. My road cars engine has cost a fair bit as its a raceline spec engine that xfactor built and im running a cts stg2 gearbox to handle the power, and an alcon six paddle clutch. Its also got loads of other bit and bobs done to it and has cost me a fair bit of wedge.
But you can doit very cheapily. Im building a track car at the mo and the shell cost me 120 quid. Ive stripped it and taken the 1.6 engine out ready for a 2.0 to go in. Ive already sourced a 2.0 head for 30 quid, an erst gearbox for 100 and now ive just got to get a bottom end, ecu and maff and shes ready. So all in including cost of the car its cost me 250 so far and by the time ive sourced a bottom end and ecu, maff etc will have cost me around 400 quid i reckon.

chicken_eyebrows :how much are we talking for the extra bits
uprated gearbox Use the current one
ECU Can use the current one, 2.0 one will cost £20-£40
upgrading the brakes Doesn't have to be done, uprated pads maybe £25
suspension Same again doesn't need to be changed, but its recommeded anyway for handling 1.6 or 2.0 £150-£800
