In car boost control?

Postby StallionR on Fri Apr 02, 2004 10:41 am

I have a mechanical in car boost controller for the fiesta turbo lying about and I was wondering if fitting it to my car is a good idea or not, I have heard mixed comments but would like a persuasive answer.

Will it be fine to use to up the boost pressure or will it blow my engine sky high? :-?

I also heard mixed views bout this- like using it is a bit hit and miss when adjusting the boost.

so i weant to ebay and bought an electronic one - works like a charm.

dont recommend mechanical in car adjuster tho

They're a bit like bleed valves... they're OK if they're of good quality and if you can resist the temptation of "twisting just a little more" but human nature says most ppl can't, so personally, I'd stay away from it. Besides, I don't really see the point in having an in car boost adjuster... if you wanna run less boost, just go easier on the throttle

Having said that, if you decide to go ahead with it make sure you have your car properly set up for the pressure u're running. Upping the boost without touching the fuelling will give you nice results for a very short period of time... after which you'll probably get a nice set of 3 bedroom pistons with a view to the crankshaft. Running lean will kill your engine in no time.

I am deeply sorry for the abbusive use of the expression "a bit like"... it won't happen again. If anyone happened to have their engine turned into a pile of scrap because of my technical imprecision, please feel free to bill me for the repair. If there are too many of you, I will change my name and run away to Brazil to avoid bankrupcy. You have been warned...
