yeah, the 16v si's are notoriously bad for tuning since they run so hot. the engine won't respond to anything like induction kits or exhausts or anything. you are looking at serious money before you get anything out of it. the best thing to do is get a series 2 2.0l zetec out of a mondeo ghia, only group 9 insurance, 128bhp as standard, and a lot more tuneable. best of all, its a straight swap because the engine is externally identical to the si's 16v engine, you only need change the engine and the ecu.

depends on certain factors such as whether you are prepared to trade in your original engine (if the garage wants it) and the quality of the engine going in. For a series 2 (you can put in either series 1 or 2 but you want a 2) with decent mileage (i think decent counts as under 40k) you can expect to pay around £600-£700. I'm probably completely wrong but still, that should give you a rough idea. The outcome is brilliant though, a more refined, tuneable engine with v. low mileage that with an induction kit and exhaust will (i hear) get you from 0-60 in under 7 seconds.

all in insurance group 9 (make sure its out of a ghia though, anything else i think will be group 10, even though the engine is the same). just check with your insurance company cos some are a bit too smart and will jack up your insurance to a lot more than group 9
