The only thing you can really do is change the air filter element inside, or change the whole air box for a bolt-on filter, but don't expect any performance gains at all!

If it's for noise, then a lot of people drill the airboxes around the side (not something I've ever done!) - I think there may be a guide on how to do this in the Guides and FAQs forum :)

Shouldn't this be in the Styling section? Induction kits are not tuning.

I know you are trying to be "rood" but any engine modification should be under tuning. In my books the air intake whatever the method, is fairly engine critical  Besides an induction kit will give performance gains, albeit minimal but gains nonetheless along with a slightly improved responsiveness. Finally id of thought the moderators were perfectly capable of running the forums.

That is a pretty bold statement, got any proof?

how did you manage to misquote a three line post?

Besides an induction kit will give performance gains, albeit minimal but gains nonetheless

and in answer no i do not actually have a full rolling road system accurate to within half a bhp sitting here on my door step but it would be a much bolder claim that there are absolutely no additional benefits to be had from installing one.

Besides its fairly fundamental that a less restrictive intake will free up more power i.e. maximize gains from other modifications. Besides are you not arguing in the other thread how much of a performance gain you get from a big exhaust?

On some cars the fitment of an induction kit can make some pretty healthy gains. I've seen 7-8bhp on some engines. Also seen and expereinced power losses by their fitment hence why my A4 now has reverted back to the standard filter

It is fairly fundamental that you have to know an intake is restrictive before you can make it less restrictive. Have you got a flow bench out?

I am not arguing that big exhaust gives more performance on another thread, I am arguing that it that given situation the exhaust has increased flow through the engine. This does automatically mean more power!!!

if you check through Haynes you can find the name of the Carb. from this you can find the correct Bolt on filter, was looking into one for my old 1300 hcs but its like £59 so didnt bother..

i was told that you can fit the K&N off the orion as its the same injection system. same is true of most of the older smaller engined fords.

It is expencive for what it is but it would be better the the standard one as it will let the engine breather better you get what you pay for

It's been known that you can fit the 1.4/1.6 K&N Bolt on to the HCS engines. Can't remember it what it involved but it's been done. Part number for that was the 56-9042 I think :)

56-9042 is the one specified for the carb on the HCS its also for a lot of older fords. At least thats what my research turned up :D

I think its pretty much just drill the mounting holes in the bottom plate of the bolt on filter to line up with the carb/injection
