Information on tuning possibilities for a Fiesta RS Turbo

Postby zidane2k90 on Thu Apr 19, 2007 9:52 am

Hi,
I'm new to this website and was wondering if you guys can give me some tips/help/advice?

I don't own a Fiesta RS Turbo but i'm thinking of getting a one (i've always liked them) and i read something on the internet somewhere (can't remember where though) that you can tune a Fiesta RS Turbo to about 300bhp i understand that it will probably be through an engine transplant. Does anyone know if its true and also if anyone has done it?

Thanks alot to anyone who can spend the time to reply and give advice aswell.
Chris

It all depends on how good the engine is most people go for the 195BHP option with a t3, uprated fuel pump, 701 injectors, 195 chip and upping the boost but you can go past that with other mods all depends on what you want out of the engine and how much you have to spend on it.

i mean the 1.6cvh is good for over 300bhp and there is a few about like it, but the engine needs to be built properly to handle it and it costs alot of money

Which to do properly costs more than building the CVH properly. And many people (myself included) see the Zetec turbo as baxtered the breed. NOt wanting to take anything away from the ZT boys as they have proven time and time again what they can do just that for my money the car needs the 1600 CVH in place to make it what it is

The Fiesta RST is a tunable little bugger, most people tend to stop around the 200bhp mark though as it starts to cost money after this point.

Oh right, well thats a good start.

I'm thinking of getting a one as a project and had wondered about this 300bhp claim.

Does it run 200bhp reliably? I would want to the 1600 cvh as its the whole heart of the FRST.

Yes it does if you look after the engine mate. My first rst was running 200bhp and it never failed me.

How much do think it would cost to get one tuned up to approx. 200bhp? Has anyone got a detailed guide on how to do it?

Things you need are:

195 chip (£100 second hand)
beige injectors (£100 second hand)
Uprated fuel pump (£100)
Full exhaust system (£150 second hand)
Uprated actuator (£60 IIRC??)
T3 or T2 hybrid (I wouldn't trust a standard T2 at over 12psi for too long!!)
Uprated intercooler (£250 new)
Paddle Clutch (£250 new)

I think that should be your lot...two frsts on here are running 204bhp on a T2 at 15psi

Whats the difference between a standard T3 and a Hybrid T3?? Which one is better to use for tuning?

Them things you've mentioned above don't cost as much as what i would have thought.

Will the driveshafts be able to handle 200bhp? Or will i need to think of new ones for them?

Hybrid T3 is more durable so will last longer then a standard item!

If you buy a T2 frst and want to run the bigger T3 turbo then you will need to budget between £500-1000 for the conversion including the turbo!

How much do you think i'd need to budget for a decent hybrid t2 then?

Are most of the parts you listed quite easy to get hold of?

Go straight for a T3 mate the T2 isn't worth a squirt

As above the price of a T2 hybrid is about the same as a whole T3 conversion...and the T3 pulls alot harder
