Insurance and Wheels?

Postby dontpannic on Thu Nov 01, 2007 8:30 pm

Hi Guys,

Just bought a set of alloys from a member on here, phoned to tell Direct Line (my insurer) who have said that they won't insure any modifications for anyone under 25. My renewal comes up in march so would appreciate any ideas as to what insurers do allow alloy wheels on cars under thier policy..
I'm 19 and will hopefully have 2 years NCB when the renewal comes round...

Cheers,
Nick

At 19 they are going to sting you a bit. Tesco's oddly might be worth a look. Even Swinton have provided competetive quotes in the past. Grab a copy of Fast/Performance Ford and try ringing round a few companies.

Cheers Steve(?)

Quinn and Swiftcover have said yes so far, will try Tesco, as my parents have a policy with them and could get a multi car discount thingy.

Cheers,
Nick

You will tend to find the insurer will hike your excess with alloys to put you off claiming if they get stolen although they tend to pinch the whole car these days rather than just the rims.

Keep phoning about mate I'm sure you'll get it sorted

I am kinda in the same boat as i have just put some alloys on my car and telling my insurer is a right pain at the moment.

I think they are really going to sting me as i am only 18 :( with no NCB yet.

sorta similar thing, im about to buy car and was getting a quote from direct line and just checked the t&c and they dont allow any mods to the car and this has k&n air filter and exhaust system. bit annoyed cz that was the cheapest quote so far n cant get quote with them because of the mods already done to car

I'm with quinn direct, 19 with a years no claims and a 1.6Si. paying £650 TPFT

I've declared everything too, suspension, air filter, exhaust and wheels. Didn't cost me an extra penny AND it's the cheapest by far to begin with!

Highly recommended :D
