Insurance Issues :(

Postby joycey2006 on Fri May 04, 2007 1:14 am

Hello all,

Just wondering which insurance companies are good ? I know this is an age old question, but basically ive been driving 2 years, my first was as a named driver, i would have got my first years no claims next month, but last month i smashed up my brothers car ( my fault ) and wrote off a 12 grand 5 week old MPV with it.

My insurance on a 1.6 Si went up, from 72.00 a month ( in my own name ) to 148.00 a month

Im trying to get insurance on other cars, ive been looking at 1.8/2.0 engined cars and no one will touch me, even as a named driver on my mothers policy again :(

My details:

Age - 21
Years Driving - 2
No Claims Bonus - 0

I just can't help but think im being raped here? Im currently with CIS.

Is there anywhere else i could try ?

My brother is paying 100.00 a month FULLY COMP on a turbo diesel astra in his OWN NAME at 17 years of age

Well i'm also 21 with zero no claims bonus and been driving 3 years and i made a claim during the summer for an accident which was my fault also lol so i know how u feel.

Its really annoying when u finally reach 21 after all those years of thinking insurance would be cheap to find out ur no better off than when you were 17

try these:

quinn direct - http://www.quinn-direct.co.uk (my old insurers) - very reliable and reasonably cheap.

kwikfit - http://www.kwik-fit.com (just got insured today) - cheapest i'v seen. I got quoted 1200 fully comp on a frst and 750 3rd party fire and theft. I drive a metro thaugh which is insured for just over 400 3rd party

wow you guys are really getting shafted for insurance, i laugh everytime insurance comes up with young people.....
lets see
car-mitsi galant
engine-2.5 V6
age-19
driving-2 years(3 actually to be pedandtic, but 2 since i passed test)
insurance
1 year ncb
excess-400 voluntary-150 have to pay
european cover-50 quid added on, had to do it as i drove to brugge last year
actuall insurance cost
800 english quids(850 with euro cover)
so thats 66 quid a month....back of the net.

i think what helped me is that i have no crashes on my record or points on liscence, and i bit the bullet last year at 18 years old insuring a mk1 golf GTi(1200 quid) and didnt claim anything, kept clean and it dropped 400 in a year....think if you insure a performance car at an early age and dont bin it and claim of insurance they keep record, and see that and must do something about....
ive gone from
1600 group 9 car
1800 group 9 car
1600 group 14 car
2.5 V6 group 14/15 car cant remember

try moneysupermarket.com insurance section i found them the cheapest, but to be honest you binned a car early on in your driving life which is a bad thing insurance wise

I was paying £240 a year for a ghia x 1.8 escort, am now paying £150 a year for my 1.1i lx fiesta, got a quote on a escort cossie for a laugh and it would only be £800 a year, fiesta xr2i and rs turbo are both £240 a year for me, im 32 by the way.

Im with budget now, try confused.com thats who i always use.

The annoying thing is after the crash, they CANCELLED my insurance without telling me, because i ' didnt provide sufficient information within the 14 day period ' about the accident. So i drove for 4 days without insurance, until i got stopped, had my car confiscated, had to pay 119.00 to get it back from the local compound, and the next morning there is a letter on my doormat from CIS.

Ill never use them again. Talk complete crap. :(

But your female lol U get cheap car insurance anyways. Which brings me to those damn sheila's wheels adverts. They are se blatently designed to throw it in guys faces that we have to pay more than women. So unfair

17 years old and just got insured on a nissan micra dad main driver for £868 on a car barely worth £400.

I know somebody who wrote off a fiat bravo 1.4 and is insured on a fiat bravo 1.6 now his own name at £1200 tpft and hes got 3 points as well. only 18 years old :o but i dont know if the claim went through his insurance as he was saying he wasnt at fault.
Dreaming of my first FRST....

im 18 still tryna work up my ncb i will get it in january and for females insurance is significantly reduced because there's no such thing as a girl racer  lol the insurance companies prejudicism against males!!!! ah well i guess we're better drivers :aviator: and insurance companies persuade more women on the road with cheap insurance, and i aint got nothing against females driving, just as long as i'm no where near them whilst i'm driving on the road, lol

I agree being old does have it's advantages.

with the xr2i I am with quinn and they were really nice to deal with.

Even when I added my GF who is still on a provisional, the premium didn't go up a single penny :)
