Insurance review
Ok. My insurance is due soon so I phoned around a few companies for quotes. Thought I might as well post up the quote given, and my opinions on each company, as im sure somepeople may be interested. The car I was asking insurance on was a mk3 1.6si with the 2.0 conversion. This includes the break upgrade. I also said the induction kit, allloys and exhaust (items I have fitted atm). Car is parked at home on the drive and has a cat1 alarm and a cat3 disklock. I also used my unkn discount. I'm 21 with 4 years ncb and no convictions.

Answerd quickly and told me quickly (which is nice instead of having to go through everything) that they basicly only cover very highly modified cars that have had thousands and thousands spent on them, so my car was below this so didnt get a quote. The person was friendly.

They were ok, person was quite friendly but all they do it pass you on to other companies, which is abit annoying. If you really cant find any decent prices, try them, but I just found it annoying. They apssed me on to Alan and Alan, Premium choice and Adrian flux. They phoned me back in the end, asking me a few more questions. I told them i'd spoken to the companies theyd recomended and about the one company not being able to quote me today as they needed to refer it to a manager who had gone home. They said I was entitled to get a quote today, and then passed me back onto that companie, but basicly had to go through the options, and a waiting list again. Sod that, I hung up!
Alan and Alan - 08000912444
Answerd quite quickly and they wernt too bad. A little friendly, but not overly. I got a price of roughly £900, and would be closer to £1000 with bodykit and other modifications. He wouldnt give me an exact quote unles I took my insurance with them, and skimped through things, not asking about any security, telling me what the excess would be like etc. Theyr ok for a quick quote when your first looking, but didnt give me the time I expected from my shortlist of companies.
Premium choice - 08009020584
Took 7 mins on hold, then hung up. Tried again, 8 mins then finaly someone answred. He was helpul and went through things fairly well, but I still had to tell them about my security devices and alike as they never asked. They told me I couldnt get a quote today as the manager had gone home (Ive heard that one many times) and said that theyd ring me back tomorow with a quote.
*Update* They never phoned back!

Went through things alot better and clearer than the other companies, and answerd quickly, although the bloke I was talking to sounded really depresed and like he hated his job. Bodywork modifications dont really make a difference to the policy, and they put my down for having my car at home and away at uni, which saves alot of hastle for me. They woulddnt give me protected ncb utill I was 22. My excess was also £500. I got a quote of £1100, and aparently the car being at uni didnt make a difference. There is a £30 admin fee if I wanted to change any info on my insurance quote. - These would be my second choice if Redline wouldnt insure me/you. Having the benefit of doing the Max driver scheme would also help bring insurance down a fair bit.
Fast Car - 0870 225 2122
This directs your phone call to Adrian flux, which confused me abit when they said that I had already had a quote. This bloke was alot more chirpy and didnt sound like he wanted to top himself. Quote remained the same
Redline Insurance - 08451221199 - *RECOMMENDED*
They answerd very quickly and it was a girl who sounded fit, which was plesant! She went through things very well, covering almost everything, although I did have to tell her about the security devices. She was the only person I spoke to who seemed to show any kind of personality, and was asking me if I attended and car shows an things like that. The insurance covers up to £1500 of body mods and also alows a 5% performance increase. My exess for a crash would be £375, for theft/fire £175. I got an excelent quote with my ncb protected for £788, which is great! The only problem was that they wouldnt cover my gf (whose 19 and learning to drive) on the car, although I never had a chance to find this out from the other companies as they just rushed me through, so have no idea. Things like legal cover etc were all about £10 extra each, and any changes to the policy involved an admin fee of £30.
*Update* Awsome. I rang them and instead of keeping you on hold get you to leave your number (automated) and they phoned my back like 10 mins later. They asked if I wanted to speak to the girl I had talked to before, I said yes, then, as she was busy, they said if it was ok to get her to call back, which she did about 2 mins later. I found out that for (rough prices) £20 gets £1000 audio cover, £30 gets £2000 worth and £50 gets £3000 cover (have to have a cat1 alarm though(I took the £3000 opttion ) which is great as most other companies wont insure audio. When sorting out the insurance, she was very apologetic whilst waiting for the computers to do their things (even if it was taking like 15 seconds, and I never had to wait for more than a min!) I went through with her about me being away at uni, and when Im planing the conversion, and basicly, my car is insured for being at uni, then when I go home, due to the postcode change I can put the 2.0 engine in and my insurance wont go up - result!
In conclusion, Redline was by far the best, and although im waiting for one more company to come back with a price, being put on hold that long everytime I want to talk to them just makes me feel it isnt worth it, even if it is abit cheaper.
*Edit* I took insurance out with Redline and its been a real hastle free, which was nice!
Hope the above helps a few people out

The internet ones like that dont do cars with lots of mods. I basicly norrowed down the companies that would insure me with the 2.0 conversion, which is normaly a killer for most companies.
Also, never just renew your quote. Last year I was with norwich union, canceled my insurance at the end of the year and then got a new policy with them with the same car and saved over £300 on my renewal quote.

Ive always been lucky i suppose with either chris knott insurance or 1 answer insurance. Could be worth a try,or for modded cars and a member of an owners club HIC used to be really good, but i havent had a quote from them for 10 months, 01279506090.
