Intercoolers Again....

Dont think a GRS will fit behind by bumper, and I dont really want to wait 6 weeks for one either! Are the Pace ones ok? My turbo will only be running about 15psi

Well I'm sure you know the efficiency of the Pace coolers isn't all that. Do you know how much a custom cooler from GRS would be? Are you saying their replacement FRST one doesn't fit, or one of their large (a-la-Gav) ones is bigger than you want to put behind the bumper? If it's the latter, why not size up something that would be more subtle and require less cutting? Might be worth trying Allard Turbosport (they specialise in diesels, but an intercooler's an intercooler). I have some pricing guidelines in my room, so if you have an idea of width, height and depth, let me know and I'll find out the price that way :) How much are you looking to spend? If I remember correctly I think PACE's cooler was only tested to 11psi, but that might've changed :-? How's the car coming along?

I'm kinda in the same boat as i dont wanna carve up my bumper so i'm gettin a standard location one. The best ones ive found are the pro alloy ones which drop act's nicely and they stablise the temps really really well too. Also there is Racetech, those ones are sposed to be well good too, there used on the rally scoobies. Both go for about £270 ish.

Well ive got the dimensions from GRS for a Gav style IC, so ill see how close it is......there is a 6 week waiting list for these id rather get one now so i can get it setup asap. Mark that is a nice setup, but id have to relocate the battery to the boot then :(

Matt have you got any links for the pro alloy ones or racetec ones?

Heeman, going to check the progress tonight mate.

I think an Allard Turbosport alloy cooler would set you back around £300 if that's any use :) I've had some contact with Alan Allard in the past so might be able to get one made with reasonable haste instead of waiting ages :-?

There are some pics on the site if you click on Price List mate. I requested a load of tuning info along with intercooler prices/dimensions so have it all sitting here. As I said before, I have a chart with the various heights, widths and core depths available complete with prices, and they will provide the appropriate fixings too. Give Alan a call at their new place in Gloucestershire, no harm in asking. Get a move on! :D

As Excursion says, you may well want something bigger, and 15psi is still sufficient to increase charge temps considerably, so the more you can cool the air, the more power you'll have. General rule of thumb: get the biggest, most efficient cooler on the car that you can fit/afford!

that should work ALOT better than the pace version, just needs to be tested now and would be better if u could get more air flow to it.

For starters i know it has special fins in the middle that allow the air to be cooled in some way.

The pro alloy isnt a double core like the pace one. It is one core but the same thickness as a double core which means the internal air flow is much better, apparantly.

I wanna try and make some custom intakes from the bottom of the bumper to the cooler so i can get more air onto the cooler surface - might try and use the intake vents from the front of a zx10 motorbike.
